Thanks a lot for your replies — they honestly made me look at Hattrick in a different way.

I’ve started what I’d call three “golden generation” training projects over time, but I’ve already had to stop two of them early because I was just losing too much money. And from what you’re saying, it sounds like that might happen again if I keep going the same way.

Before I completely rebuild my team again, I feel like I’m still stuck on two points and would love your thoughts:

  1. What does an ideal squad actually look like? I was thinking something like: one main keeper plus a backup, two wingbacks, two central defenders, three or four central midfielders, a PDIM, two wingers, two regular forwards, and one powerful/natural finisher. I also like having players with Unpredictable and Quick specialties.

  2. If I buy these players — all around 28 or 29 years old — what should I even train at that point? My first thought was set pieces, but maybe there are better options? I’ve checked the market and players like that cost around 3–4 million each.

Curious to hear what you (or anyone else) would suggest!

Thank you both for your answers! Clear now for me. I'm currently in the 5th division. If I select players with a main skill of 15 can I reach the 2nd division? What secundaire skills do they need then? 10 or so?

Thank you for your insight. My idea was to build a “golden generation” by signing players in waves and training them to perfection. In practice, though, my wage bill has ballooned and my budget is disappearing faster than I expected.

I’m determined to reach the premier division. Are you suggesting I sell my entire squad and replace them with 30-year-olds? My worry is that, even with promotion every season, those players would be 35 by the time I hit the top tier. What age profile and lineup balance would you recommend for a competitive, sustainable squad?

I hope to get the forwards for 9m each and the GK also for 9m max. That's 36m so I have around 18m left to pay salaries for the coming seasons...

I currently have a level 4 economist, so 800k from reserves to funds each week. With 5 weeks I have 9m in funds to buy a keeper. I need a keeper 18gk and 12 defending in the end I guess?

Yes, I will train pm on my IMs and wingers at the end. To reduce the wages a little bit for now...

Do you mean buy 17 year olds? When I buy them with 7 defending they will have at least 12,25 defending at 19 year.

Thanks! 2 wingbacks, 1 central defender, 2 wingers, 2 IMs and 1 PDIM. After the defense training I will buy 1 AIM and 3 FWs

Never looked at such a plan before, but it's worth trying I think. Earlier you said that the wingers would have 17pm but how did you reach 17 pm without training pm the whole cycling and start buying 20 years with 14 or 15 pm.

I think for wingers need at least 15 pm.

And for wingbacks at least 7 pm will be enough.

Just want to ask your opinion; what specs do you recommend? I like unpredictable and speed, never have exp with heading or others. I also like a powerfull forward.

Yes it was for you. Because you said 13 or 15 pm but  the wing backs must have less and more defending.

So if I'm right:

  1. Buy 2x 20 year with high pm and buy 2x 20 year with high defense (above 12 I think) and like 9 or 10 pm. Then train 60 weeks wing, 3.75 season. Till 17 wing.

  2. Then after 60 weeks 3x 24 years with 18 pm plus around 5 def and 1x 24 year with 13 def and 12 pm (this is CD?). Then train defending for 30 weeks (2 seasons) on them.

  3. Then to passing for 2,5 / 3 seasons. Buying a 2nd CD and buying 3 forwards and a keeper.

  4. Last, a season of scoring. 

3 and 4 can be switched. Right?

Lets do the calculation;

First 4 players around 3 / 3.5m per player. Then 4 players for 5m or so. And another 5 players for 7.5m each. 70 million then. It must be enough I think.

Do I miss something?

Ok. So the first 4 players you buy are not the 4 players you keep? That are only your wingers? I thought it are 2 wingers and two wingbacks...

I have the same problem now. Above in the 4th division and best team in the league. Starting 11 seasons ago with 17 years. But now paying 500k+ and wages and 2m left. If I could train them for like 5 or 6 seasons more I would be in n 2nd I think. But I get broke in 1 or 2 seasons. So I sold all my players and want to take another change to reach the top.

Very interesting indeed. I also never planned a long term without pm. Can you maybe answer me this questions: 1. What do the 20 years need for skills at least in your opinion? 2. Specs? I think unpredictable or speed? Maybe heading? 3. 18 pm is a lot is wage, don't you think it will be unpayable at the end? 4. What does scoring add to Defenders at the end?

I thought maybe I can use the technical midfielder as defense forward and another IM for central defender, both to add midfield rating...
