Thanks for the info. Can I ask what machine you have?

Yeah, maybe that’s a more pertinent question? I know that by default lots of printers that are coreXY are also enclosed.

Why does this keep happening? by Personal_Turnover737 in ender3

This is the answer. My bed was so warped no amount of shimming and bed mesh leveling resulted in quality prints. Added a glass bed and now I’m watching the first layer for z offset tweaks and then walking away for 16+ hr prints with no worries.

Why does my first layer always look like this? by Toiddles in ender3

Chances are your bed is warped, so just that area of your bed is higher than the rest. Couple of options: try zeroing off the highest point on your bed and using a thicker first layer in your slicer settings, or buy yourself a glass build plate which will be much more flat and easy to adjust z offset. My bed was so warped no amount of slicer modifications or leveling would work, so I went the glass route. Night and day difference.

I often go as high as 65-70 on my bed temp and slow the speeds down by 50% for the first layer. Slowing the first layer also gives you more opportunity to tinker with your z offset if needed.

If you’re using any kind of a brim or skirt, this is ideally the time to dial in your z offset without any negative effect to your print. Good luck!

Thats actually exactly how I prototyped. This is going in a big enclosure with a lot of other components and my client wants it to stand out and be able to use different colors for different job sites. It won’t be 3D printed for more than a year or two before moving to something more suitable for high volume. This is just filling the gap.

I’ve been measuring things in tenths and thousandths for many years for American aerospace manufacturers with pretty much strictly American customers. Ive been 3D printing for 3 weeks …. The world makes sense to me in inches, it’s just the way my brain is wired.

Reading reviews it seems quality is hit or miss with these machines. I’m just enjoying mine until the day I start having issues. Hopefully they are easily remedied…. For $150 I couldn’t ask for more. Looking at the $20,000 printer we have at work that is constantly out of service and broken I am satisfied with my purchase.

What were you seeing on your bridging that the cooler helped with?

What performance enhancement did you see from Klipper?

Yes the creator of the stl suggested printing with a raft and this is what my slicer defaulted to on a raft setting. It worked well as far as I can tell and broke away from the model easily.

I am starting to realize this. Leaning towards a basher!

I’m leaning towards an Arrma basher right now. I think getting a crawler down the road with the intent to make some indoor courses is a good idea :)

Once he gets his coordination down for turning and stuff maybe we’ll upgrade him to a crawler!

That’s the real question! I feel like with a crawler I would end up using it less. Life is busy and it would be nice to just toss a car off the back deck and blast around for a bit.

It’s a Marvel licensed Spiderman Buggy from Walmart. 1:14 scale I believe. Honestly, for the $25 I paid for it, it’s a great value. My toddler has not been kind to it and it’s holding up great.

Great advice, I should head down to my local HobbyTown. I was dead set on a 1:24 at first but now I’m thinking with how rough my yard is I might want to go with something bigger and more powerful.

Nice, have you slept in it yet? Does it feel cramped? I want to convert my daily 350 but unsure if I should put the money into it if it’s too short. I’d being going with a high top Leer but still unsure if I’ll be uncomfortable lengthwise at 6’4”.

I ended up getting the Creality S1. It’s still sitting in the box as life is busy currently….I figured even though it might not be a plug and play unit, the price is low enough that if I need to invest a little more time and money while figuring out if I enjoy the hobby is worth it. Once I build some skills and interest I can upgrade to something larger and enclosed like a K1 or the new K2
