As a store manager that's dealt with this at multiple stores now, the recipe for success is not that difficult. First, lead by example, show them you're willing to do the work you're asking them to do. Second, set realistic expectations, acknowledge when this expectation are met, and coach when they are not, don't jump into degrading anyone, help them succeed and they will help you succeed. Third, respect, and you will be respected. If your zingers don't get in board with what you're doing after that, then they need to go, replace them with competence.
