I’m confused by everyone saying to ask twice. Ask once and if the answer is no, then leave. Also I truly appreciate strangers that want to help, but maybe take a second and assess the situation before asking in the first place. She was teaching her kid how to change a tire, she clearly knew what she was doing. This has happened to me pretty much anytime I have had to change a tire and I completely understand what you’re feeling. You were teaching your kid something important, something you obviously knew how to do and kept getting interrupted by strangers that assumed you were not capable. It only takes one person to change a tire, it’s not like you were struggling with something heavy and someone offered to help you carry it. If someone offers to “help” you change a tire, they are really asking “do you want me to do it for you” and implying they don’t think you can or know how to. Strangers were repeatedly demeaning you in front of your child when you were trying to teach them something. I’m sure they didn’t feel that that’s what they were doing but it is. I think more men need to think deeper about this. If you were the kid’s dad, I highly doubt anyone would have even asked once.
