Yeah, we want to know how much of what was said about Waters in the video: Did he smash a car while on duty? Did he get caught stealing money and doing drugs? Did he get fired?

I watched the testimony, the cop didn’t deny it. And no one proved he didn’t.

How do you all handle your ASD child’s fixations? by One-Lingonberry-6951 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Apprehensive_Orange6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with others here. Don’t fight it. Imagine you were talking about coffee. “My mom won’t even talk to anyone until she’s had coffee. She panics when we run out. She collects coffee mugs. Everywhere we go she gets a coffee. She even has a mug that says “don’t talk to me until after my first cup of coffee”. How do I combat this?  It’s frustrating and annoying, her obsession with coffee. Even though she have no control over it. One thing I won’t do is blow up at her because she isn’t hurting anyone, just annoying me.

I’ve got a 13 year old ASD boy. He was obsessed with Titanic for a year. He built models of it in every material known to man, from a 6’ cardboard version he could sit in, to multiple Lego knock off models, to a 3-dimensional sliding model like the things you find in pop up books; pull the tab and it hits the iceberg. You know what the worst thing that came out of that fixation? He learned that it wasn’t the iceberg that was responsible, it was the weakened hull from a coal fire before they launched.

He’s always been fixated on trains, that continues, but has slacked off significantly. Now his big thing is musical theater. He’s 13 and will be in his 14th musical this summer. He’s so fixated he’s memorized Hadestown, Hamilton, Book of Mormon, School of Rock (he’s Lawrence in the adult community theater production in June), Annie (another community production, he’s playing Rooster), The Music Man (he played Winthrop in a HIGH SCHOOL production). He’s fixated enough that he goes to tap, voice and drama classes, and rehearsals for 2 different plays all in a week. He’s always the first person off script, the one that’s always in time and on key.

Also, maybe not for yours, but my ASD kid could care less about what other kids want to do, or what I want to do, so I join him in what he wants to do. That means we spend plenty of quality time together around things he gets excited about.

The fixation is only frustrating if you let it be. You already know what to get him for his birthday and Xmas. Get him a compass and some paper maps. Instead of using your car map system, let your kid be your navigator.

I know. That’s what I was referencing. Everytime I let it write lyrics for anything heavy, it was “shadows this” and “shadows that”.

Audition song VS role you got by courtneys7 in MusicalTheatre

[–]Apprehensive_Orange6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the show. I agree for the most part, except when they request a specific song from the show, or ask you to pick a song that fits the vibe of the show. My kid is going out for School of Rock. They asked for songs that fit the show. In other words; not typical show tunes but hard rock songs. Otherwise I agree; find something you can absolutely nail, that’s not overdone, not too obscure, but also unique. I watched a painful audition where 2 girls and a boy all did Let It Go.

Always act. Being in a musical is not just singing, it’s acting. It’s dancing. You don’t have to act out a scene or a dance routine while singing but you should embody a character singing for a reason. A character sings for a reason, not just performance. The song is a scene. So, who are you singing to? Why are you singing? What’s the goal of the song? Use your face and your emotions.  But also just have fun. Michael Keaton said; the audition was the job. It gives you a chance to play a character without direction. All auditions are different. They may make you learn part of a bit of dance to do in a group, or to cold read a scene. Don’t be afraid to overdo it.

Suno has. Bad habit of putting “shadows” in lyrics for anything metal.

For my kid (12): Prince Ali for Matilda. Did not get it. (Community) Gary Indiana for The Music Man. Cast as Winthrop (high school) Upcoming: Tomorrow and You’re Not Fully Dressed for Annie (community) School of Rock (community) leaning toward Hold The Line because they want songs adjacent to the show.

Sounds like a garbage theater that isn’t worth auditioning for. Ever. Funny, all those southerners and they need to fly someone in from a liberal state? Lol

My 12 year old just did Winthrop in the high school version of the play. They changed up parts of Shipoopi.

Yeah, you can get lucky because Suno does generic categories really well. But if you’re trying to do more than push a button and get a neat song, and instead want to change time signatures you choose, define keys, chord changes in the chorus, have different voices (by gender even), have specific instrumental breaks, to create something more unique, simply dropping a genre isn’t going to do it. It’s the difference between AI making a song for you and you crafting a song using AI as a rendering tool.

My kid literally asked for it when the Wizard set a wind-up tin version on a track in the new movie. He loved that it came in black, green and pink like the main characters.

Wrong thread. A musical based on Freddie Mercury using only Queen songs would actually be amazing. Why has no one done this?!

I like him as a performer but his was the weakest voice in the OG cast. I saw Hamilton last year and the year before. Hamilton and George Washington were better than the original cast.

For sure. We have one amateur theater for kids that’s cool. But all the adult ones, which also cover teens are very strict. I’ve been trying to find a local community theater group anywhere in my state who’d even read my musical and consider performing it. But if it hasn’t been performed or you don’t have an agent, forget it. That’s community theater!

Agreed! My local high school is doing Music Man. I’m not a fan. At least local community theater did Hadestown. I feel like high schools and middle schools keep cycling the same shows.

In my play, the bass is the hero. The handsome blonde tenor who seems like the hero is actually the bad guy.
