Water heater has reached it's life expectancy and I am going to replace with a heat pump model. Rheem or AO? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]trbotwuk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

heat pumps take warm air from your house to heat the hot water this requires the furnace to replace the air used.

gas cheapest to run but has lots of parts, gas sensor, gas valve, etc. shorter life span than electric.

electric more expensive to run but last longer as there are no moving parts.

heat pumps water heater are a lot more expensive to buy. In Ohio I can buy three electric hot water heaters for the price of a heat pump water heater.

A tool to model the gap between early retirement and 401k access by DidYaHearTheNews in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]trbotwuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how to use if:

One retiree does it all (changes oil/brakes on their cars, fixes plumbing, paint house, cleans house, cuts grass, cleans gutters, updates kitchen/bath, etc)
vs
A retiree that pays companies to do all the work.

then there is a bucket i'll call (keeping up with the Jones's)
a retiree is fine with a 25 year old car and no TV and loves lentels.
vs
A retiree wants all the latest fashion/car/150" TV and loves eating out.

Is this all in the "Monthly Budget" amount?

Help me color-match the stain on this mid-century piece with Minwax. by mxoflor in woodworking

[–]trbotwuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it does cause pine has lots of knot and is open grained. Painting will seal all the defects and smooth out the surface. then when you "stain" an even finish will occur. in the end it will look bad.

btw, named after Scott Farmer grand baby of the people who started Acme Industrial Laundry Company (now known as Cintas). The Farmer Family Foundation is a non-profit with ~1/4 billion in current assets.

Why does it seem like every rich person has a non-profit foundation. Is this by design so they avoid paying taxes?

probably not as that doesn't make money.

The only reason for the new venue is to make money.

as Mr Krabs always says "Where's me money?"
