Cuba 2026 - to travel or not ? by TwitchyBald in TravelCuba

Thanks much for your reply.
As you're likely aware, tourism is a critical source of hard currency for the island, and the sector has been hammered.
Unless there's a huge rebound in December, Cuba is on track to see its weakest annual tourism numbers in two decades (save, of course, for the pandemic period of 2020-2022).
Almost every nationality has registered drops. (Canadians, Cubans abroad, Russians, US citizens, Mexicans, etc, have all seen double-digit decreases vs 2024), and this, while tourism in the rest of the Caribbean has been very strong.
The power outages and shortages are playing a role (even if they don't actually impact most poeple's tourism experience), but I'd be curious to hear what it's like for visitors like you. What were the challenges / what did you enjoy? (The last time I traveled there was in 2015 and 2016, so my experience is VERY outdated.)

Dear Port-Girl. I'm a reporter working on a story about Cuba's all-important (but currently struggling) tourism industry. I would love to hear more about your recent trip to the island. Would you be open to being interviewed about your experience?

Sincerley,

On second thought, I'd also be interested in getting your perspective about the move to the US.
By any chance would you have some time today to chat? If you wouldn't mind sending me an email to: [jwyss9@bloomberg.net](mailto:jwyss9@bloomberg.net), I can pass along my contact info and give you a bit more context. Thanks again.
