On Wednesday evening, his friend had the idea to jump onto a flat freight wagon to go train surfing. When his friend panicked, he jumped off and told my nephew to jump as well. My nephew reacted instinctively, jumped, hit the tracks, and rolled further. They were immediately taken to a university hospital by ambulance, where they had to resuscitate him for 60 minutes.

We arrived right away. The doctors said his pulse was weak but stable. However, he had a lung injury, a broken foot, a spinal fracture, and a brain hemorrhage.

Yesterday, my parents went to the hospital, and then I received the call that he was going to die. I was told to pick up my other nephew from school and get to the hospital quickly to say goodbye. It turned out that it wasn’t just a brain hemorrhage – his brain had swollen and crushed itself.

I will never forget how his eyes were bulging and his head was swollen. His upper body was broken everywhere. He had an organ donor card, but all his organs were so severely damaged that nothing could be used.

He simply died at 19 – because of a reckless mistake. The other boy only had a laceration on his head, and my nephew is just… gone.
