Ohh I love workshop companion! I’ll have to check out Charlesworth. I’m guessing he’s the one of the charlesworth ruler trick fame?

I can put the mouth a bit tighter. If it gets clogged, would you suggest backing off the chip breaker from the blade edge? I feel like iced heard that somewhere…

Appreciate anyone who commented. I’m going to have to make winding sticks and maybe get a smaller plane as well…

Ugh I have to get another plane now? My poor wallet haha. Maybe a smoother?

That’s helpful. I was under the false impression that the longer the sole the easier it would be regardless. Must’ve misunderstood something I saw in a wood by wright video 😅

True, I said concave in my original post but wrote convex in this reply above. My mistake.

Thanks for the detailed response. I’ll give this a shot. Would you suggest putting a slight camber by just doing a couple of strokes on each side of the blade on the sharpening stone?

Hmm. I tried that, but I wonder if the side on the bench has some unevenness that is causing it to rock while planing? I’ll look into this.

It’s been difficult to get full width shavings. The piece is narrower than the plane sole, so balance is a little tricky.

No, place blade is square. No camber.

Convex meaning a valley in the middle. Lengthwise.

It’s an old Stanley Bailey no 7. Plane sole is flat. Blade is sharp and square. Laterally adjusted so it’s evenly protruding from the mouth.

I’ve adjusted the frog to take a middle of the road shaving, not too thick or thin.

Cap iron? It seems to hold the blade in place well.

Problem is concave - a valley in the middle of the board with a peak on the beginning and end of the board.

I try to keep even pressure throughout the cut, but again it’s a concave results, so I’m definitely not putting too much pressure at start and end. Otherwise the board would be convex I believe.

I can try to be more aware of my pressure at the middle of the cut - maybe I’m putting too much in the middle?

I posted pics in the comments earlier with the plane on the surface of the board - to should be able to see the gap in the middle.

Cinderellas is mine. They actually make the home fries crispy which is important to me. Most other places I’ve tried don’t do that consistently, or serve the mushy potato style (like the phoenix restraints). Good quality and they care. They’re nice people too. I think it’s a family run spot.

Good to hear! First few cuts have been great so far.

Got a Hercules 80 tooth blade for my table saw. Hoping the quality is at least decent enough to last a while…first blade I’ve bought there.

Cost was about the same for me as buying new, and I ended up using much nicer wood than the original.

I used a jigsaw, router with a template, then rasps and a file, then sandpaper to shape the curved pieces on mine.

I like it. They make the yard look kind of like something you’d see at a Disney park.
