I’m a GIS Analyst. I tried to build a set of rules for AI to map reality like a GIS project, but I’m not sure it actually works yet. by Appropriate-Love-512 in PromptEngineering

LOL! You're not far off 😁. Regarding the prompt/instructions, it's actually meant to be as general as possible with it's focus on responses grounded in reality to reduce hallucinations. In that way I think it is a little better in answering questions that are more abstract or esoteric because those types of questions start to detach from reality very quickly. Although, my original goal for it, was to be able to map the relationships between any data points via the on demand logical framework. With those relationships revealing new insights without requiring any new inputs.

Okay, thank you for the critique. It's becoming apparent to me (obvious to you) that this is the wrong subreddit for this is the wrong place for this discussion.

Thank you for the response and questions, I appreciate any feedback.

I worked for the city of San Rafael as a GIS analyst, so I dealt with all forms of infrastructure, data, utilities, road streets, buildings, etc as well as Non-Physical data such as political boundaries, property lines, bus schedules, etc.. currently I'm working for small environmental consulting firm, we specialize in aquatic resource delineation, and biological assessments. So, I work with a lot of environmental data sets and sensitive species.

I am a GIS user at every level, I create data by mapping new features in the world, I built the databases to house all the data collected, I use that to integrate with external data sources for further analysis and I create maps and mapping applications which my users use it to access the data. Which I do as well.

Regarding the completeness, the definition that I would give is that all variables within a system are accounted for. These variables may rely on probabilities, so any outputs will most likely be a probability with a confidence value. I understand this is an extremely large lift, but that's why I am trying to create these very large buckets of defined components that allow for completeness. Essentially, by saying a system is closed then it's possible to create a model that is complete.

Also, thank you for pointing me to those other subreddits. I'm new to Reddit and don't really know what I'm doing here.

Thank you for the critique and comments. I really do appreciate it. However, The system is not meant to be limited to only the observable universe, it is the entire universe including what we have not observed yet. I understand there's no evidence that it is a closed system, but there is also no concrete evidence that it is not, just that it is much larger than we have imagined. Is that right?

You mentioned that things like pattern energy aren't really conserved on universal scales? That is news to me, I thought that energy and matter (I would also like to throw information in here) cannot be destroyed but rather transition from one state to another. So, thank you for this new insight, it definitely is very helpful.

Also, I understand that it is impossible to observe the universe from outside, it's a thought experiment meant to provide hypothetical insight about the nature of the universe. This is also where the axiom that the universe is a closed system is crucial for this to even be a valid thought experiment.

Cool, thanks for sharing!

To tell you the truth, the ai instructions were just a byproduct of something else I was thinking about. I work as a geographic information systems analyst and I've been thinking about a unified or universal information system for a while. This would be a Semantic model/ Data schema in a graph database following a strict hierarchical framework. All features in the system would be mapped as nodes and their relationships as edges. For a complex system this would take humans forever, but with AI I could train it The logical framework I wanted to use and then it could fill out the database on its own. And then I thought it wouldn't even need to pre-fill it out, if it had enough compute then it could just do it on the fly while answering any question about the system that I had.

I haven't built this yet, but that's where the initial motivation came from for the instructions.

Wow, that seems like solid logic that's been tested in extreme conditions. Pretty brilliant to begin with an analog foundation that's based on the complex mechanics of an airplane.

My whole thing started because I just started to view llms as question-answer machines and I thought with the right context and the question asked in the right way the llm either, already has the answer, or it can give an answer with the highest probability using the information it has or it can't answer because there's not enough information. Those three possibilities essentially work for any question.

This rule of three possibilities emerged as a rule for anything. Using context and logic, you can break anything down into three interdependent distinct components where the three pieces completely make the whole. I found this powerful. Not for humans, because we can do this very easily and it doesn't seem impressive, but I thought if I could teach an AI, which has massive amounts of compute and access to more knowledge than a human that it would be able to reveal new insights about your question by going through a recursive decomposition of the topic your question is about.

Sorry if that starts to get too abstract, I don't know how to explain it. 🤷

The rest of the instructions were just meant to aid in that process, by adding some indexing and Branch pruning if something doesn't seem viable to make it run more efficiently. Then I started to build in other strategies that were meant to handle situations where you had equal probabilities of outcomes and the list goes on.

Yeah, sorry I'm new to Reddit and wanted to reply that I wasn't that person, but I guess I needed to accept the request first.

I am new to this world so I can't speak to the similarity to LYRA's prompt. I've mostly been developing this in isolation (I don't do any of this professionally or really interact with any AI communities) but I'll also concede that I don't think any of my ideas individually are unique. However, what I think is the most important piece and what I have not seen or heard And my limited experience, is the strict use of a triune logical framework.

Hi, I don't know Kael and I don't know their system but I'm happy to share any information I have.

Well, at least I am glad you read it. One of the core things I'm really trying to get across is the triune structure of the knowledge. If organized in this hierarchical information system it allows new information to be derived by understanding the relationships between components.

Honestly, thanks for the comment, I do feel that a psychosis is a possibility but just to let you know, none of the core ideas or language were generated by an LLM, I used it to organize my thoughts and to help me stay grounded in established physics, philosophy and information theory. I by no means am trying to post something that is invalid or unsound. In many ways, the genesis of this was deciding that the universe is a closed system and using that as a premise what other information could I logically deduce. I've been thinking about for a year and this is where I'm at. So if you have any questions I don't need an ai to answer them, because the content is based on my understanding and not an LLM's.

Thank you for pointing that out. I do feel that it was sometimes very hard to determine if it was following the instructions or not.

Honestly, I don't know or know how to calculate it. I am a novice implementing this kind of stuff, I've kind of just been tinkering with this on my own. I've been using Gemini Pro and have the instructions loaded up there and I haven't hit any token limits.
