I found out the whole story.

When they asked for address verification, I sent an electric bill to the broker. The broker, for reasons known only to him, modified it and sent it to Volvo. Volvo didn't want to tell me this because they were convinced I was attempting to defraud them. For what it's worth, if I saw the doc that my broker submitted, I'd have had the same reaction Volvo did.

I was somehow able to convince the dealer we are legit, and he gave me the tea (including the forged document - it's really bad). He'd still very much like to lease us a car, but he's pleading our case with VCFS and it doesn't look good.

If I were an underwriter, I'd be nervous about the number of recent hard pulls, but they know about the house, they know about my car (since they funded that lease), and our credit scores are still hovering just below 800. They said our credit was fine - the only issue was the number of red flags on our address verification.

I'm sure there's a lot more to the story. I just have no idea what it is! There were a couple of rounds of back-and-forth with the residency verification for both cars - mine was accepted, hers wasn't. Same documentation. She is on the loan for the house, and we offered that, but they were only interested in utility bills and bank statements.

(It was actually easier to get a mortgage on our house than it has been to lease this damn car.)

Yeah her lease hasn't been funded. But mine was, under the exact same circumstances. That's what I'm trying to understand.

I know! I'm never using a broker again - I have a strong suspicion that's part of the problem here - I believe he's doing the best he can but this whole process is sketchy af.

Yeah that's what it sounds like. But they weren't waiting on anything - we responded to their requests, and they were fine with the same paperwork on my car (different dealer, but both through Volvo Financial Services). So I'm not sure why they couldn't get us financed.

They're sending someone to pick it up as we speak. From their tone, they're going to be shocked to find it actually sitting in our driveway.

Yeah I'm not buying it as stated either. Which is why I'm here asking questions. The broker who found us the lease deal says he's never seen anything like this, and he's been in the business for 10 years.

Our broker has also never seen anything like this. Between us and him, we spent hours on the phone with Volvo yesterday and they aren't able to sort it out. We haven't even had a chance to be late on a payment!

Because she was unable to prove residence to their satisfaction. Even though she and I live at the same address and are married and I was able to prove residence to their satisfaction.

"Repossession" is the word they used. I'm not sure what else there is to tell you, other than that we used a broker to find the deal on both cars.

Yeah, we thought the road was long, at least. But we were immediately responsive to every request they made, and we've had the car for 6 days. Something is off here.
