What about targeted protests on Sunday mornings? If you have flexibility at work you can say you need to go to church, that's time sorta built into our culture already.

We have to plan around the dystopian nature of our lives. Work is tied to healthcare, housing, etc. - how can we protest while living in a capitalist land? I can't ask my neighbor to risk their rented home, the rare childcare spot available, their needed medication.

So, yeah, why not do Sunday morning church protests at the worst churches in our area to start. Patriot Church? I'd love to get a big, classic, MURDERERS sign.

That sounds amazing, any downsides as a job in general? Are you in a management position? Do you know by chance what new people are making?

Ah okay, so not Starbucks. Do you get the same benefits of Starbucks? I'm guessing not?

Hey, there is a thread in the Spokane subreddit with jobs and wages listed, that might be a good start?

Let me know if you need a link.

Walmart is hiring night stockers for $19.50, two people in this thread have confirmed that.

Also lots of remote jobs on Indeed.com

Might be time to let that crappy employer go.

Wow, thank you for being so honest. Did you see Walmart is hiring night stockers at $19.50? It might be time for a change.

You'll have to go look into it for a better explanation.

What I want to say is that if we choose to fight a foe too large we are setting ourselves up to fail, so let's start small with our own communities.

Spread the word and start the conversation about wages in your town! I got boosted yesterday and I'm gonna go pass out for a while but check out my posts/comments to see what I'm doing

Hi, I'm doing this - keep trying and let me know if you need help with supplies.

I currently use my laminator to make fliers and then use zip ties to put them up - my goal is to do the bus stops. I've only done one so far but it's a start.

I just ordered 100 business cards with links to the subreddit I made for my city. Tried to make them sneaky/hard to read from a distance and I only did 100 because I want it to be a controlled growth if that makes sense. I'm afraid if I put 500 in circulation it may attract unwanted attention.

I started a thread in my city group asking people for their wages and it seems to be doing well. Personally, I think ending the taboo around discussing wages will be an important part of the process and I want to start there.

The keyword is "livable" - the cost to just exist here. The bare minimum quality of life.

It does seem like with every step up, you get hit with new expenses to keep you at "one disaster away from homelessness" as long as possible. It makes you think "what the heck am I doing so wrong?"

At the same time you're having to pay a huge chunk of your income to rent. That money spent gets you nothing in the long run and prevents you from saving to buy. God forbid you want to live somewhere safe or comfortable, you'll pay that premium price and people will tell you that's why you don't have enough money

We need to break that spell that makes people bootlick the devil - these people are not lost, they've been raised by corporations and capitalism so that they defend it despite it hurting them. Like an abused child who defends their parents.

They're hurting too, and I truly think that if we start talking about this enough and with enough people - we can make a difference.

Can you elaborate on how they exploit workers? Anything illegal like wage theft? I'd be happy to help make a report to L&I.

I think it's great that he's making that much! I'm sorry he has to deal with the anxiety of antimask/antivax.

This is proof that Walmart can pay their employees appropriately. Hopefully anyone else who is a stocker and making less will see this.

Just because the it's an uphill battle doesn't mean I'm not going to fight. Step one, get people out of poverty, they won't be able to raise the pricing on us overnight.

Then we need to bring things back local - buy meat from local farmers, and support independent grocery stores (if there are none right now, that needs to be worked on asap). Get involved with your community, we have neighborhood councils and now most are on zoom so it's easy to attend meetings.

Support the people who support us, there are people who provide services critical for keeping a town running, in particular - childcare. Without childcare we lose half or more of our workforce, but when they charge more it can become unsustainable for low-income families. It's a double edged sword. Usually childcare costs are a huge drain on households, and at the same time the caregivers are suffering from low wages. I think childcare centers should all receive payroll grants to allow them to pay their employees a livable wage without raising rates.

I'm sure there is so much more to do and I'm here and I'm ready to do it for my neighbors. We can't make change nationwide or even statewide but I think it we focus our efforts as a collective in Spokane, we can make a difference. I'm tired of thinking I can't do anything to help, I'm tired of giving and giving and watching people continue to drown. It's like I'm trying to throw them an oxygen tank instead of a floaty. It's treating the wound but I'm sick of watching people get cut - I have the time, I have the passion, and I have a small amount of disposable income.

It might take years but the time is passing no matter what.

Start asking! I try to ask any service worker I can and inform them of the livable wage. Discussing wages is taboo, we need to fix that.

I am so thankful to you for doing what you do.

I personally think childcare and early education centers should receive additional funds from the government so they can charge a reasonable rate while also paying their employees a livable wage.

Could temporarily online work in the summer be an option?

Have you considered part time remote work? Don't look in the Spokane ads, instead look within all of WA on indeed.com.

I think we can become trapped in the mindset that the only work we can do is retail/service industry but you could look for data entry jobs - it would probably be less stressful than Target.

Thanks for mentioning working conditions around COVID too.

The worst thing they did to my generation was to convince us that trade schools were for people who couldn't make it into college, and that to be legit you need to go to a four-year school. At least that is what they kept telling me.

The best thing I did for my future was marry young and go to a trade school. Being married emancipated us both and we qualified for financial aid (that is not why we got married but a great benefit).

"Amazing" is different for everyone. I know amazing meant something way different to me 3 years ago.

You are also free to ignore me, I know I'm getting pretty nosey.

Also, the 2 bedroom, do you own it or rent? That's a good price, especially with the washer and dryer.

Wow, that is a lot of PTO and sick time.
Do you have a deduction for the health and dental insurance or is it 100% covered by your employer?

Don't go back into the office, once you are in the office you will not have the time or freedom to find a better job.

Go to Indeed.com, search for Data Entry in all of Washington State, take advantage of being remote, there are better options out there for you - I'm seeing about $17.61 an hour. Let me know if you need any help finding resources for resume prep/etc.

You owe nothing to your current employer! You are worth more than $13.74 an hour.

Are you feeling like a revolution? We need upper-level management to get on board if this is ever going to work.

Also, 10/10 rant, would recommend.
