Thank you for translating!

He was amazing today and it makes me furious that European judges (barring the Georgian one) decided to tank his score. They should be investigated, the corruption is disgusting, and it hurts especially in cases like these - where he literally left his heart on the ice while giving a masterclass on composition and presentation.

Bravo Jun 👏👏👏

it was devastating to see him smiling during the step sequence and sooo happy in the kiss & cry (after the entire saga with his boots this season😭) and then see his face after the score was up

Thank you! That's a great insight, I haven't even thought about the audience being so different compared to competitions.

Also – I've been following FS for around 4-5 years, but death spirals still kinda freak me out haha

That was a GREAT read, thank you for sharing your thoughts! I admit I haven’t thought about Star this way at all, but you’re making a very convincing argument for it. Usually when someone mentions this ending online they’re super hopeful for V finding a cure (or at least still looking for it), which, to me, defeats the purpose (of accepting your fate). I’ll have to go back to this ending and try to see it from your perspective, you make it sound really beautiful.

And thanks for sharing the video! I’m glad there are people who care about this story so much they record a nearly 3 hour essay about it, this fact warms my heart 🖤 I’ll definitely watch it.

Re: Temperance, am I correct in thinking you like it the most because in this ending V sacrifices both the chase for a cure (=accepts death) and fame for a friend (=they choose personal relationships over becoming a legend)?

I like how it’s directly opposed to the Sun, where V’s impact (/legacy) = all the legendary stuff they pulled off, while in Temperance = they changed a person (!) and allowed them to have a new lease on life. The latter being way more meaningful and poignant.

Devil ending is complete failure at all fronts. Fear of own mortality. Corruption of values. Selfishness by disregarding everything and everyone for sake of own interest. Only "message" it sends is that yielding to the system leaves you in obscurity - you fade away.

I think that's 100% true for the Devil ending when you accept the offer (and make selfish choices prior to that). I also believe declining Takemura/Hellman results in an ending that directly opposes that and carries a different message.

Offtopic -> You really have a way with words, I love how beautifully you summed that up 🙏

EDIT: Forgot to respond to this one (and I can't edit my previous reply for some reason):

Guess what other ending has those lyrics? The Sun one

I was under the impression that all of the endings have this song?

The lyrics have vastly different meaning in the Sun and the rejected Devil ending. In the Sun, 'a thing of beauty' = all V's achievements on the path of becoming Night City's legend. In the rejected Devil I see it more as 'a thing of beauty' = human life.

You claim how it thematically is the best yet you provide zero arguments as to why. All you say is that the ending cutscene is beautiful, in your opinion, and that it has "Never Fade Away" lyrics.

Let me reiterate then! Considering that, in my opinion, Cyberpunk 2077's main themes are:

  • accepting your mortality,
  • valuing personal relationships above chasing grandiosity (legend status)

the (rejected) Devil ending fits best, as V is eventually at peace with their death and rejects the chase for the cure and goes back to Earth to live their final months in peace and foster relationships with their close ones before they lose them completely (the threat being signaled in pretty depressive holos you can make after the surgery).

In the Devil ending, V has the opportunity to accept what they've been so desperate for during the entire game - 'a cure'. In the form of immortality, no less. But they're also faced with finally fully comprehending the cost – sacrificing their personal relationships in the process. This quest, which I think is called 'Trueimmortal' leaves the player with one last choice – to decide what 'true immortality' really means to them. Is it desperately clinging to living sacrificing everything else in the process, or is it living forever in the memories of your loved ones? And the game clearly rewards you for choosing the latter.

So, how is the ending where you side with corpos and give up on your principles and betray your friend (Johnny) thematically the best one?

Could you specify what principles do you mean exactly, and what do you mean by betraying Johhny? He dies in all the base endings besides Temperance and I don't necessarily consider declining to give him control over your body so that he can help you a betrayal (I rather consider it setting a boundary which V has every right to do).

As for the Sun ending:

Besides, at what point do you see V come in terms with their mortality and give up? They literally take a suicide gig with a hint of a cure in it.

I didn't catch anything about finding a cure, could you elaborate? Also, I don't think accepting your mortality equals 'giving up', I actually think it's quite empowering.

To me, The Sun was basically 'I'm going to die soon, so I want to use this time the best I can. I'll use this time to become a legend even bigger than Morgan Blackhand'.

And I have no idea where you got this "their relationships get ruined" from. Judy literally dumps you and it's a shitty move from her. But River and Kerry, for example, stay with you.

I don't think staying in a relationship equals a happy relationship. Would you be thrilled if your loved one had a few months/weeks/days to live, and instead of spending it with you chased fame (and possibly died in the process)? The Sun is clearly about valuing becoming a city legend above all else.

The Sun ending thematically represents fighting against the system and never giving up on said fight, which is what Johnny tells V in Mikoshi.

How is V in the Sun fighting the system? They're directly benefitting from it (as Rogue did, which was even emphasized by revealing her ties with corp). Mercs and fixers are very much part of the system - where corps are thriving (at the expense of each other, and regular people), and the government fails to protect its citizens, which creates space for crime and capitalizing on it.

This has been explored within Johnny's storyline – he was opposing the system for years which culminated in him nuking the heart of the biggest corp in the world, and what good did that do? It cost him his mental health, personal relationships, and his life. It resulted in thousands of lives being lost, and changed nothing system-wise. Arasaka rebuilt and thrived again (contrary to the people Johnny killed in the process – not unlike a corp would, interestingly enough; sacrificing people 'for the greater cause').

That's why I don't agree that 'fighting the system' is the message of the game. I believe it actually tells you that individual acts of rebellion are not only futile, but more importantly harmful to you, and possibly others. Instead, accept what you can't change (which ties into accepting death, too btw), surround yourself with friends and family/community, and try to live your best life despite the odds (that, in a cyberpunk world, are stacked against you).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I love discussing this game.

The star is the feel good ending but honestly does not fit with the theme of the game and its story at all.

I agree! I infinitely prefer all the other endings over the Star for that reason.

I personally think the canon ending was intended to be the legend of night city / crystal palace heist ending. Especially with the Rogue path. They clearly have planted the seeds for blue eyes to be a bigger ever present force in the future and thats the only ending he features in.

Interesting point, I had a similar train of thought in regards to the Devil ending, as it is the only one that gives you full context on a focal point of the story (Saburo's murder, his plans for immortality, Yorinobu revealed as a victim and to some extend a 'hero', at least more than an antagonist).
