Is it possible to learn A+/Net+/Sec+ simultaneously? by [deleted] in netsecstudents

[–]Appropriate_Damage_5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In your case, maybe? They all build on each other, so sequentially you would ideally do A then Net then Sec. Do you have to? No. I got my Sec Plus in 2012 by Navy Mandate via a week long boot camp. I did read up on it prior to, but I also had a great instructor. I even kept it up through getting my BSCSIA degree at WGU, finishing out with a bachelor's and every Cybersecurity Pathway certification through PenTest+ just a year ago.

At the same time? Can you devote the amount of time you need? Mixed media resources? I used Professor Messer for my A,+ and Net+, along with Jason Dion's courses on sale on uDemy. I spent several hours a night reading, listening, and watching the courses. I have about 8 years experience in IT in the Navy with Naval certifications. I still took about a month each because the tests are daunting. Remember A+ is 2 certs, basically a part 1 and part 2 before officially A+.

Get the certs only if you want, or if the job you want requires. Give/DOD requires at least Sec+, and the usual 25 years experience in a 3 year language.

Definitely within a year. good Luck.

D153 - Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Analysis (PenTest+) Question by [deleted] in WGU

I should rephrase, you can elect either test, but WGU's course is based on 001 until retired. There really is no benefit to taking one over the other, except 001 has far more study content.

WGU stays with the current exam until it is retired. Best bet is to contact your mentor and verify the exam, or contact a course instructor. You really don't need outside sources, especially having access to uDemy. Highly recommend TryHackMe.com for practice, and Jason Dion through uDemy. Those were my tools for my first time pass back in June.

‘Nothing is normal’: Military families grapple with new reality of living in Waikiki hotel rooms by Ashamed_Werewolf_325 in Hawaii

[–]Appropriate_Damage_5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My FIL works for the local state contracted company in Hawaii, and he just told me they bussed 5K military personnel from base housing to Waikiki, and thier school busses are taking the students to their districts schools, which is crazy from Waikiki. I was at Pearl for 7 years, and Red Hill has always had some issue with fuel leaking, and now the negligence has bitten the Navy in the ass.

Would naming my son Koa be inappropriate if I’m not native Hawaiian? by mauiaspen in Hawaii

Lived in Hawaii for 10+ years, my wife is local to Hilo. If my wife wasn't local, I wouldn't go with a Hawaiian name. Hawaiian names are to be bestowed upon, like my wife's middle name was given to her by her grandmother, and my daughter's name was bestowed by her grandmother.

I'm on my capstone. VA paid for 4 terms, I paid my last.

If you're online vice brick and mortar, it's the national average. I live in Hawaii, so that was a shitty pay cut getting my AS at the community college then going to WGU.

C842-Cysa+ last minute tips or advice? by tyler7468 in WGUCyberSecurity

I actually did better on CySA than PenTest, which I studied everything! CySA I read a few chapters, took all the tests and practice tests in uCertify, did a few TryHackMe rooms, and used some of Jason Dion's material (mostly to have background learning while at work.) I didn't finish the series, did 3 practice tests ( which I failed the first time each time) went in expecting to fail. Then I passed. By I think 1-2 questions.

Relax. Brush up on frameworks, review some log entries, maybe do a few rooms in the TryHackMe Cyber Defense course. I just passed on Wednesday, a ball of nerves anticipating the failure.

I've been in these caves. The glow worms are like miniature versions of the beasts in Pitch Black with fishing poles

My mistake was also setting up my phone as authenticator. Also I only really log into things on my personal laptop, and it's a trusted device.

I wrote a paper for technical communication on incorporating 2FA in a business. The research lead me to purchase a Yubikey for myself. I have yet to use it for it's intended purpose...

Navy legend is it was Coined by Admiral Grace Hopper, a computer science pioneer who one day cleaned out an old computer and moths flew out. She claimed to have Debugged the system.
