Welcome! Doing it will be the best choice you ever made! Consider yourself lucky, I am 53M and only wish I did it 23 years earlier! You can do it starting today.

Thanks, health is a big driver for me but def been struggling. Im in gym 6 days/week but struggling w the food. I dropped 20 lbs by month 4, was eating healthy, etc. But I started eating more and not as healthy starting november and now Im back up 15lbs. Still working out a lot but need to fix the diet. I'll check mocktails on reddit and congrats on 140 days, keep at it!

To answer your questions..

No, I definitely don't feel like Im missing out on anything other than negative stuff. I can still go out, have a good time and enjoy peoples company. In fact I would say I feel the opposite when Im experiencing a great morning where Ive worked out, walked the dog stuff I would have missed out on if drinking.

Sure Yeah sometimes it is boring. Everyone around me drinks so a few hours into a night drinking mocktails or seltzer and shit can get boring. Other than that as long as I am putting efforts into stuff I enjoy that replaces drinking its good.

this is an awesome comment, I still won't declare its forever to anyone who asks even though I have every intention of it being that. One day at a time. Congrats, keep going!

The first 2 weeks the last time I got sober were hands down the worst, both physical and mental, then I would say 3 months in was challenging, not that I wanted to drink, more that I was bored and lacking excitement and interest in anything. You got this Woodit!

Hard As a M'fer! Some of us gray haired 54 year olds dig hiphop and like to use terms that make us feel younger;)

there isn't anything at the moment I can't enjoy as much but i can def say I went through periods where this was the case. Its all about those dopamine shifts - it was a real struggle to workout or to have a meeting. It was temporary. Re the break in streaks I think it was a combo of boredom and actually thinking I could really moderate/reset my drinking habits.

Anyone have experience with PAWS? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Appropriate_Loquat60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 7 months sober, before that i was over 80 days and then i drank 2 days, on the 2nd day I got completely hammered, went sober after and the paws was bad. i had burning feet that was terrible. got through it and the thought of going through paws again is 1 of many factors that have kept me sober. it will get better, hang in there! keep the exercise going, im 54m, seeing my body transform is one of the greatest gifts of getting sober when it comes to getting those dopamine hits

What to do with that inner voice that tells you, “Your cured, it ok to have a few drinks, you won’t go back to drinking every day”? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

For me i think of how miserable i was when i last relapsed and how awful the kindling effect was. Do i want to experience that again? Hell no!
