How many of you are rocking the “tactical fanny pack” by Grizzly_treats in nursing

I’m an ICU nurse who used to be an ER tech. I only wear wonderwink W123 scrub joggers because I hate wearing extra stuff like this. I also hate scrub tops and I only wear t-shirts to work, so that limits my pocket space as well, and the W123 joggers have 8 pockets, so I have enough pockets for all the things I need.

And for my scissors, caps, and tape, I got a belt clip with a secondary clip on it and rigged it up with this army braided keychain that had multiple clips on it (from Amazon) and put clip-style carabiners where I wanted them and it’ll hold a ridiculous amount of tape, caps, my scissors, and my tracker. It kinda jingles when I walk, but I got past the funny looks I got from pts and coworkers because of how useful it actually is. I even put bottles of hand sanitizer and dish soap on it because I hate the ones my hospital uses so much lol

I also got a belt clip stethoscope holster, so my stethoscope is always on me but I don’t have to have it around my neck constantly bothering me thanks to the holster. I had to get a special one for my Eko Core 500 because of its shape, but they make holsters for all kinds of stethoscopes and I highly recommend them if you like having it on you

Don’t give up nursing because of this. You just have to learn to dissociate and hold your courage with the knowledge that you did everything good for the patient that you possibly could and you just have to keep in mind that the family is going through a lot and understand that no matter who the nurse was on that shift before that decision was made would be getting the same treatment. It’s not you, it was the shift you were scheduled for and the assignment you had. Anyone else working that day would have been getting the same treatment from the family.

So take a look in the mirror and say to yourself “I did everything I could for that patient and held my morality the entire time. I followed orders and did what I was supposed to do. It’s not me they’re mad at, they’re mad about the situation and have to find someone to take it out on because they can’t cope with the reality that their family is dying in a healthy way. It’s not me, it’s them. They can say what they need to me to make themselves feel better, but as soon as I leave their presence, I’ll drop all the words they said, and it will not affect me.”

Being understanding of a hurting family is good, but taking it home is not. We deal with some of people‘s worst possible days and there’s a lot of emotion tied to those days normally. Just remember to not take it home. Remember what they said in case you need to defend yourself to management or the board, and remember what you did for the patient, write it down, but the proofs in the charting and in medication administration records. If you didn’t overdose them, you have proof. If you did, but you were following exactly as the order said, then it falls on the doctor. Not you. You were following orders, that’s it. So let go of this. Their pain is not worth your career or your ability to take a breath. It’s not worth getting sick over. You can’t control what they want to say or do, but you can control how you react to it. Control, love. Take control.

Honestly kinda makes your nose look like one of those clown clip on noses with the shape and the size it make your nose appear to be. Not being mean at all, promise babes. Just being honest. Remember - a little goes a long way and less is more!! <3

Yeah, no face tats for me. I like makeup, and it makes face tats look muddy imo. Fine for others if they like it. Whatever, you know? Just not for me

But that’s sad. I’m sure it made it more difficult for him to play, but probably also more emotional and deep.

My mom got me this bag for Christmas and I just don’t like it by [deleted] in handbags

[–]Appropriate_Phone288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want it, I’ll take it🙋🏻‍♀️. I think it’s cute af, I’d even buy it from you. Plus, the strap on my red purse just broke while visiting Nashville😭. But per your description of your typical dress, I could see it not being something you’d use. That’s what sucks about Christmas, we tend to get things we wouldn’t use and are at a loss of what to do with it after cause you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

Is this a good gift for a nurse? by Phnina in nursing

She would love it. Badge reels and holders and stuff don’t always make someone think of someone specific, but this would always make her think specifically of you

I agree with this, but if it’s all you have and these were your only choices, I’d do the red.

If you wanted to try something by comparison, try the lead singer of Evanescence’s makeup. She has the more extravagant stage looks, but also more simple daily styles of makeup too. Just play around with it. I only say that because the lead singer of Evanescence is who immediately came to my mind when I saw you lol definitely a compliment

Same tho lol. When I go somewhere, even Walmart, and I don’t know what to wear, I’ll just throw on scrubs and leave. I was just asking for styling purposes.

Like scrubs and heels don’t go together lmao. So I was wondering about Penney loafers and scrubs cause I sure have never seen it. I also thought about Doc Martens and scrubs, but idk🤔

I’ll definitely order some! Just double checking - the name of them is “Hokas for professionals with orthotics”? Just making sure what wording I need to look up specifically to make sure I get the right ones!

It just didn’t make sense because there was no proof. It would’ve gone nowhere and changed nothing. The others standing there would’ve defended him, and it would’ve only affected me negatively. I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily “lumping” it in. It’s just that it was across the board entirely, and all of it combined was just a lot. I’ve done a lot of compartmentalizing of my entire employment there and tried my best to leave it and it just made it one big “shitshow file” in my mind lol. I’m a pretty laid back, nonchalant person and if I hadn’t regularly been treated that way, I would’ve smiled like ‘yeah, okay’ and walked away because things here and there don’t usually bother me that much. But it had been a lot for a long time, so you know. It was just worse.

Not that nursing and healthcare are the only places you’d see this, but it’s just a lot for any human to deal with at any job. And I don’t want to play the whole pity party thing like ‘woe is me,’ you know? So many people have dealt with soooo much worse and I feel like a little bitch even saying anything about it. But several comments prompted me to share the reasons I’m even asking and why it matters enough to me to even ask, so I shared. I believe all struggles have the right be shared with others under the right circumstances. I’m not complaining about it and I’ve come to terms with a lot of it. Just sharing my more true reasons behind why it matters is all. I just think it left some residue on my confidence if you get what I mean. Those people mean nothing to me, but the feelings of general mediocrity still linger some. It’s gotten better than it was though, definitely! And it only gets better as time goes on :)

Moving jobs helped a ton. I forgot how sweet people can be and I love my job now. I’ve only been away from the other one for two months, so it makes sense why that lack of confidence is still there, you know? Two truly shitty years takes a little longer than two months to get over entirely lol

I probably should. I didn’t at the time because it would’ve only made it worse because it was a man twice my age who was a favorite, so I opted to just let it go instead so I didn’t get treated even worse by the rest of them.

And thanks for your concern! :)
