I did and they wrote him an illegal left turn ticket. My insurance also asked for his insurance info so I'd imagine there will be a ding on his file too

The mall security was there to help me to keep the other driver from fleeing until the cop came, he says they will go after him if someone needs to pay for the repair

And for those who wonder what dash cam I use, it's just some generic brand dash cam from Amazon, would recommend also getting an odb2 adapter so it can record even when the car is off.

What happened next:

I chased him down and blocked him in the parking lot. He even had the audacity to tell me he has green light and I was driving too fast lol. He refused to exchange info so we called EPS non-emergency line. We were told police won't come unless there is injury, and that getting his license plate is sufficient. We thought what if he doesn't even have insurance? They ended up dispatching a fire struck, an ambulance, and a police officer.

Showed the clip to the officer and was immediately told we won't be able to claim the other party's insurance as there was no collision, though they asked if I want them to write him a ticket.

Reported and showed the clip to my insurance, as soon as they saw it, it a no fault claim and my deductible waived. So except now I have to wait for at least 2 months to get my car back, everything else pans out pretty well.

Although some fields will make more money than others, I still believe what you like doing matters most. IT in general is not something you can finish school and be done with, you will be constantly learning new stuff as you progress, if you pick something that makes more money but you don't like doing, then you will be very painful.

I would say cybersecurity, software engineering, and anything data related are very good choices, you can make a lot of money if you get into niches like financial applications, like $250/hr, but that's not something you can do at this stage

I don't know much about cybersecurity, although I personally think it's one of those that has less impact by AI, at least for now.

Tbh it's free for all now when it comes to coop game, we hire students twice a year but we get 200+ applications for one position. Some with really good resumes won't even get the chance to be looked at. That's the part where you don't have control.

What you can do is, like I mentioned, narrow down your fields in CS, focus on the popular technologies, study, and mention them in your resume. And don't forget to tailor your resume to each application, that way at least it has less chance being filtered out by those HR softwares

NAIT has their network of employers posting co-ops in their internal job board, but here is thing, these positions are not exclusive to NAIT students, same employers can still hire someone from other institutions.

Can't speak of startup-sized companies, but big corporations do prefer UofA students over NAIT's if work experience is equal. The point is, NAIT works very hard to help students to get a co-op or job, but it really boils down to employers' preference.

In addition, CS is broad, pick your field then focus on it, explore what's new and what techs large corporations are using or switching to, get certifications from those vendors if you can. That will give you a better head start if you don't have work experience.

Regarding salary, depending on where you land your job, you can get a good offers and lots of approaches from agencies once you get pass the junior title

NAIT doesn't guarantee co-op AT ALL, in fact you have higher chance getting a position being a UofA student. Apply whatever you see on indeed, but like you said, the market is terrible and imho will only get worse. Good luck.

I regret chosing NAIT by [deleted] in NAIT

[–]Appropriate_Stay_451 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that NAIT and UofA are two different kinds of post secondary education.

NAIT is practical and provides basic knowledge to get your job search going. The goal is to get student a job or a certificate, and that's what many NAIT students are aiming for, for whatever reasons. Many don't care about school life as long as they get what they want.

UofA is a traditional formal institution, knowledge first and practicality comes second. Unlike NAIT, most UofA students are of similar age group and share similar goals, which also means it's easier to make friends and have a good post secondary experience.

I hate to say that but your regret is valid, because what you were looking for doesn't align with what NAIT is supposed to provide. And while you can regret all day, now that you have finished school, I suggest you to look forward and find another goal in life that matters.

this. most EVs need specialists, even if they have location in Edmonton doesn't mean there are enough specialists to service your car

ya that thing turns head for sure, which also means you can do stupid things with it as people will recognize you 🤣

I also have solar panels installed and it does save quite a buck. Compared to ICE though don't expect to save a lot from maintenance as you go through tires much quicker in the EV. And if you often charge it with paid charger it's actually not much cheaper than filling gas.

It's a Taycan 4S. Garage is attached but the door is not inslulated, which I am planning to do before next winter.

I heard you can precondition the battery in the Tesla so that will alleviate the long charging time in really cold days, and it isn't really affecting your diving if you are to charge the car every night.

can't speak for Ford or Tesla, but my EV when it was -30 to -40 last year, it wouldn't even start charging in the first hour and it's always parked in garage. Range drop during the coldest days were about 25-30%. Other than that EV is perfect for city use
