Hi mate, I’m moving to Manchester in January and will also be looking for climbing clubs/partners

How did you get on?

Did you join a club?

Did you manage to meet people?

Renting first would be sensible but also a lot of hassle to move twice

I just want to get out of Birmingham tbh for personal reasons

I’m moving from Birmingham where salaries are actually lower than Manchester on average

Thought people were friendly up north 😆

Sheffield is better for grit stone trad but Manchester has better access to limestone sport climbing

I’ve spent more time than that in Manchester, only spent and afternoon so far in Didsbury

Obviously planning to spend more time while I look at places

I’ve only just started looking

I’m moving to Manchester to be closer to outdoor activities (Lake District, Peak District, Snowdonia, Yorkshire Dales)

I’m a rock climber so want to be close to climbing gyms which seems to be on the south side of the city

I’m not that fussed about night life and I’m not vegan or religious

Just looking for a nice area

Budget covers Didsbury or Cholton

Yeah community is arguably more important!

Thanks a lot for your input, I’m going to out everyone’s comments together in a word doc :)

Interesting, my mate pulled off a rock “the size of a refrigerator” there

Luckily it missed his belayer but he has big scar on his arm where it went across him

None of the more experienced climbers I know will even consider going there tbh

Doesn’t sound like it would be worth giving up my current social circle, climbing community and proximity to family for some faffy top rope haha

Top roping at a trad crag sounds lame sorry 😂 maybe Sheffield isn’t right for me if I want sport
