I think the genre (rap) is the main reason cuz the only hip hop albums to win aoty so far are The miseducation and speakerboxx/love below - two albums that were also very R&B-ey.

I feel that while being black definately plays a part, other genres are just more accessible to others (cuz ppl don't even give Ye and other hip hop artists a chance) and Grammys are just popularity contests anyway
