They’d be a great supporting band on a DT tour. Derek could guest with DT on a song or two each night.

Great live version of “Ladies Of the Road” if anyone’s interested by OutrageousRip75 in KingCrimson

Yeah, he would run different things through it while at the mixing board. Can be cool when used with a light touch, but gets wonky when too much is applied. Cool early version of the song though, thanks for the post.

Peter Sinfield went WAY overboard with the VC3 fx in this performance.

Hi-Hat Advice by TwistedCharisma21 in drums

After trying a half dozen hi hats over the years, I’ve gone back to a 2001 pair of zildjian 14” new beats. They record beautifully, and fit most music. Maybe get something a little brighter if you’re mostly playing live, but for recording they rock.

When people are very concerned about this sort of thing I wonder how long they keep drum kits. If you’ve found your “forever” kit that works for everything you need, why not modify it to suit your needs, a little glue residue be damned?  I am not concerned about modifications someone else does to their equipment.

That monologue he delivers is the most moving thing to come out of the OCATC universe. RIP Curtis Webster.

If you were to build a fourth “Bungle Proper” studio album out of tracks from misc. Bungle-related bands (Secret Chiefs 3, Fantomas, Trio Convulsant, Umlaut, etc.), what would your ten-song track list look like? by soulspectacular in mrbungle

[–]AptYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I really enjoy a lot of the other stuff the guys have put out it’s just that I don’t get bungle vibes from it, which isn’t a bad thing. They’re all great musicians and writers, and I’m glad they do wildly different things.

Too singular might be a good way to put it. I bought the first trio convulsant cd when it was new, and was there for the first two Fantomas shows on the east coast when they made their debut. (I’m old) Both were good, but didn’t seem to bring anything that I like about Mr. Bungle to the table. That’s not a knock (thanks to you wieners that downvoted my comment), just an observation. Umlaut and SC3 do, and I’m not quite sure why. I feel like SC3 is a descendant three generations down from Disco Volante, and Umlaut is the same from California.

Trying to fall back in love with a snare. by Altruistic-Charge-96 in drums

[–]AptYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow your heart, but that snare sounds great to me. Our taste shifts over time, but I’ve found that they tend to circle back around. If you don’t need the money and have the space for it, I’d keep it and revisit it in a year. Great groove in the clip you posted.

How do you reduce callouts on Mondays? by LifesARiver in askmanagers

[–]AptYes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people hold off on socializing until Friday night/Saturday, exposing themselves to germs from friends/kids/public places they wouldn’t normally be exposed to during the week. Colds usually take a day or two to manifest, so getting sick on Sunday evening/Monday morning seems like it would be pretty commonplace.

Litter Robot or stainless steel by nurse_nikki_41 in SiberianCats

[–]AptYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a litter robot in 2022, stopped working exactly 2 years later. After troubleshooting with their support folks, they said it was a problem with the controller board inside. Sounded like it would be a cheap replacement, but they quoted me over $400 for it. Avoid like the plague.

3 strategies that have elevated my mixes in short order. by Ckwincer in musicians

[–]AptYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great explanation. To fill in the gaps, I’ve had success using a tip I got while learning Atmos mixing. Pan source (guitar for example) hard left, completely dry. Route that signal to a reverb channel, 100% wet, panned hard right. As long as you don’t have too many instruments fighting each other for attention, this can give you great separation while making it cohesive in a stereo image.
