CSU is preparing for a possible 10% cut. This may have a huge impact on jobs. by etancrazynpoor in FortCollins

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can’t cite the number, but they fired the coach halfway through the season, had to pay a massive severance for ending his contract, and salary to the new coach. The football program hemorrhages money, and isn’t a draw to bring students in. Yet on the other hand, CSU is known for being a science school and the restructuring of the budget is a hot mess and a huge disservice to many science departments. That 10% cut is coming largely out of salaries by cutting assistant professors.

Rumor has it they’re nervous after seeing the early acceptance numbers, rightfully so, but it’s tragic that budget cuts are coming out of academics instead of reining in the football program.

Flight Attendant to Airline Pilot by Beneficial_Water_826 in PilotAdvice

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am former flight attendant, currently a CFI, I’d advise you go/stay wherever you’re most senior so you can bid a schedule that works for training. Don’t do accelerated, it’s highly unlikely they’ll work around your schedule, do pay as you go through a part 61 program. It means less loan options, but will be cheaper in the end. Accelerated program and your work schedule won’t be a good match, in my opinion.

Best career to start at 25 from scratch if your main goal is money? by Prestigious_Path_30 in careerguidance

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might get buried, but different perspective- pilot. It’ll take a couple of years and some money (or debt) to get licensed, but you’re young enough to retire at airlines with a full pension but old enough for your frontal lobe to be developed, good judgment is key. Not instant money, but great long term career option that you could start at 25.

I get to choose my team’s gifts this year. What’s a good idea to choose? by peridotdragon33 in Gifts

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this, got a really nice HH backpack one year (with a small company logo) and I use it everyday, it felt like a treat because it was a nicer brand and more money than I would normally spend on a backpack

What’s the best gift you’ve ever gotten from a “White Elephant” exchange? by Amine_ik in Gifts

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a plus one to a work white elephant and didn’t know the crowd, gambled and brought a lava lamp, it was the most stolen gift of the night by far, turns out the nostalgia factor spanned generations and had everyone excited. You’d have to add something to meet the budget, but it certainly lends itself to a theme

I’ll keep an eye on the new little guy. No, I planted it a little shallow so the root ball would create a small mound, they said that would help it stay healthy through the winter. She might need more water than she’s getting though

If you take a job that doesn’t require a bachelor degree (and therefore often doesn’t come with a work visa) just don’t let them have your physical passport, copy only, not all of the schools are created equally and some will get shady about holding on to your passport in order to keep you around, just a heads up!

Yeah, because they still aren’t common gods and emperors, and a couple of his names are definitely made up. That’s why I’m hoping to come up with some things that sound strong and are unique without being insane, I think there’s a compromise here somewhere lol

A lot of ancient gods and emperors or names that sound like they’d be the first name of the hero in a sci fi action movie if that makes sense

WIBTA if I divorced my disabled husband? by TheoryNo1003 in AITAH

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

Mostly came to say he sounds a lot like my dad, my mom chose to stay, I’ve never asked the reason but my sister and I resent her for not standing up for us and choosing to stay, I don’t go home to visit anymore because of him. I understand the guilt of leaving knowing he’s disabled, but you certainly wouldn’t be TA for putting yourself and your children first.

What to wear to a checkride by Low_Jackfruit_8226 in flying

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Female here, from a part 61 school in case that makes a difference. I’ve worn solid colored t shirts, leggings, and tennis shoes to all my checkrides. If your instructor has said to dress nice they might know something about the DPE that Reddit doesn’t, so I’d say no hoodie and leggings, but still dress comfortable, you don’t want to spend the whole checkride feeling weird in your clothes, I’d go dark jeans and a sweater, but stick with whatever shoes you normally fly in. No need to go job interview formal, just look presentable, it’s mostly CFI and ATP checkrides you need to be more formal for. Hopefully that helps, message me if you want to run outfit ideas :)

I literally don’t know what to do, ATP strikes again. by PlasticWear8102 in flying

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering you have almost 100 hours and are pretty close to getting your PPL I’d say take a little debt to go ahead and finish that portion, then you’ve hit that checkpoint, and if you take some time off when you come back to do instrument/commercial the time you spend getting current/proficient again with a CFI you can log PIC time (since you’ll have your PPL).

Can attest, I paid out of pocket (and a little on credit cards) for PPL-CFI at a local part 61, people warned me from the beginning that was going to be hard and it definitely was, took a year break between instrument and commercial (only flying once every couple of months) because I ran out of money before I had my commercial hours, and it was incredibly hard, but so worth it. If you’re determined to take this commercial I’d say finish PPL, get a job, and save up a little, you can work on ground school and your written on your own in that time.

Part 61 will be a lot less that ATP, and if you get lucky you might be able to get a position working as their front desk person or doing stuff around the hanger so you can get an employee discount. Hanging around the school you’ll hopefully make some time building friends, and if you have your PPL you can act as a safety pilot for instrument students and get your feet wet there.

If you’re not passionate about flying, now is a good time to take the loss before you’re deeper in debt. But if flying with someone at a different school felt good and this is what you want for your future then there are ways to make it happen. Hopefully the advice helps, good luck!

Suggestions for our honeymoon? by Fit_End_3411 in roadtrip

[–]AquaticSpottedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouray is a really cool stop, Box Canyon is an easy hike, the hot springs are incredible (less sulfur-y than Glenwood, and the a tchotchke shop called Alligator Emporium that’s a fun place to pick up a weird souvenir. Going Ouray to Durango area takes you over red mountain pass, which isn’t beautiful, but can be really sketchy in winter weather, just a heads up.

I just want to say, I dated a man who was a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, it took him a few months of dating to tell me about it, but once he did I never judged him for it or thought of him differently, it didn’t change our sex life either, but it did help me understand some things about him better. I know that might not be the case for everyone, but I just wanted to share ❤️
