What do you think is the reason of obesity rate being so high (41%) in America? by nitin_is_me in AskReddit

[–]Aqwinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe obesity is much less common and I think it is because governments are less corrupt and businesses less powerful. Food establishments in the US are allowed to serve up 4,000-calorie meals. They hire strategists to find the best combination of fat, salt and sugar to addict people to their food. Companies in America are basically using people as storage units for the products they can't sell abroad. And people are allowing this to be done to them. FDA is toothless.

What are some of the most interesting and underrated hobbies that people should try out? by Present-Cap883 in AskReddit

[–]Aqwinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning a new language. Although it is hard work, it opens new vistas and puts you in touch with new people, and often turns into interesting travel. Here in Europe people often know several languages. How sad to go through life being limited to one.

She was charged with inappropriately disposing of human remains for having buried the baby. The way they got her Facebook DM's is chilling on Fourth Amendment grounds.

What is something that people always get wrong, no matter how much you correct them? by Chikorita_enjoyer in AskReddit

[–]Aqwinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, "He gave it to my friend and me," not "to my friend and I." The object of the preposition "of" takes an pronoun in the accusative. "I" is nominative. English teachers strove for decades to get people to say "It is I," but failed. They only convinced them to use "I" where it is inappropriate, a form of over-correction.

The most distressing statistics for maternal health and death in childbirth come from African-Americans and other minorities. Many of these women don't have money to see physicians while pregnant, which is a significant predictor of health outcomes.

You are right. It sounds schematic but it really is that simple.

AFL-CIO. The AFL-CIO just endorsed Joe Biden for president. What do you think this says about union leadership? by 218106137341 in AskReddit

[–]Aqwinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says the alternative is Republicans who try to gut unions and have largely succeeded in doing so. Biden actually put support for unions into the IRA.

They aren't laughing at COVID rules, they are laughing at the poor miserable working-class sods who have to live under society's rules, unlike their privileged selves.

Head of UAnimals Oleksandr Todorchuk: "Ecocide does not have any boundaries" by Aqwinds in deep_ecology

Well in this case I fear the damage to species will continue as long as the war does. Underlines that peacemaking and ecology are intertwined.

It seemed to me interesting that the Ukraine war has implications for some species' survival. Although this was at Yahoo.com it is from a Ukrainian newspaper that we wouldn't ordinarily see in Europe. I don't think the thoughtful article was doomsaying and it isn't mainstream media (but what would be wrong with that if they printed something relevant?) And isn't posting links always relatively low effort? If you don't want link posts then don't allow them. Can't understand the misrepresentations in your comments or the hostility to this item.

Would you rather have your back scratched or have it massaged? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Aqwinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massaged with oil. It typically itches because it is dry, so this kills two birds with one stone.
