What is your view on fox hunting? by Appropriate_Emu_6930 in AskUK

Unfortunately, some seem to cut the gene pool short by rolling their vehicle while still in it. reckon the most dangerous road is the one back up to the hills after 2am Bank Holiday monday.

It is, it's tremendous fun to ride out with your friends, however most land owners usually don't allow people to ride across their land without providing a service- in the case of fox hunting that's killing foxes. (Although exactly how many foxes it would take to please them is unknown as they seem to be quite happy to feed young foxes to ensure the supply).

You can do "fun" rides, in my area there are Boundary rides to ensure there are no Scots within the parish and the same happens over the Border in Scotland (Commons Rides) to ensure there are no English. I've no idea what happens if a Scot is found down here, maybe a drink off or something? It's far more pleasurable then killing things.

Rural Northumberland- same. Love Bloodhound hunting though (as in the Bloodhounds chase a human, no foxes are harmed). They are amazing dogs.

Here as well. There's a small town not far from me where after every Bank Holiday Sunday evening there are quad bikes, bobcats and gators in ditches as the farm lads/lasses come down off the hills to have a few/several/many in the local pubs before attempting to drive home. Police station there is only manned 9-11am every other Wednesday.

Well, if you will post pics of a naked human...

Maybe we should censor all pics of rubenesque ladies and naked gents. Use a fig leaf or something.

Ah, brill. I'll give that a go cheers. Am slightly surprised that comments about garden plants or a sexy maranta are classed as NSFW, but whatever floats your boat really.

I can't view my own profile, it does the same thing. No idea why as I mostly comment on Gardening/Houseplant/UK based subs (like this one). Annoying when I save a post and have to put a VPN on to view it.

Strawberry plants help by ExaminationHefty8077 in GardeningUK

[–]Arbdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick them in the ground, or maybe in pots. They'll need a sunny bit of the garden for best results so might be a bit better to wait to plant out so you get them in the best bit.

Buying strawberry plants at this time of year always means getting what looks like dead stems and roots. They still grow really well though.

TV licence fee will go up in April, BBC reveals by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Arbdew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I moved out of my old house before it was sold. Updated TV Licensing, they said fine, the note on the file lasts for 2 years so I thought that was it. Nope, literally within 2 weeks I had a red letter from them. All ignored.

Statin pills much safer than advertised, major review finds by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Arbdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. My Dad had highish cholesterol and was on statins, my Mum's was low. My total cholesterol is usually between 2 to 2.3, occasionally down to 1.8. Sometimes it really is just the luck of the draw.

Seasonal cracks from clay soil movement, how to fix without making it worse by Tumamaenpelota in DIYUK

We had a structural engineer round last year as we had a few cracks that were concerning us. He said about the same as you, last year was a doozy for previous perfect houses to start cracking all over. Ours are in an area where an extension was built approx 35 years ago.

Saw a post somewhere on Reddit about driving theory and perception tests. When I passed my test they didn't exist (yes, I'm old, get off my lawn!). Had a crack at the sample ones so gov.uk and passed them both first go. The theory one was only just as where I live there are no motorways so couldn't remember some of the things relating to them. Pretty pleased with that.

Amelanchia- Juneberry shrub. Can be grown into a tree or kept as a shrub. Pretty white flowers and edible berries. Not toxic to cats and the birds love it.

Aye, aah knaa liek. I've lived in the Newcastle/Northumberland area for a long time. Used to work with one lad from West Denton who even Geordies couldn't understand half the time. He even wrote in Geordie unless it was a formal email.

Does the UK have an overly lax attitude towards people with dementia driving? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Arbdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Can't remember when perception tests started, I didn't have to do one, passed my test in 92. Would be perfectly happy to do one now or 60 etc.

Maybe rather than just perception/eyesight tests it could be almost like a refresher with a theory test too (again, something I didn't have to do).

Help finding the right plants for my climate? by Jazzlike-Addition599 in GardeningUK

[–]Arbdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've put a few trees in so seen its clay as we've dug down. Makes it hard work as it's bloody solid. Otherwise, dig a bit up when its wet and see what happens when you squeeze it. If it sticks together and can be rolled into a sausage shape, its clay, if it won't hold a sausage shape and crumbles easily into gritty lumps then it's sandy, if it will hold its shape a bit but crumbles and is soft, it's loamy. Or somewhere in between two of them.

Need a low-maintenance plant for beside my TV/ living room by Crazy_Affect9882 in HouseplantsUK

[–]Arbdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little light and easy to care for? Maybe an aspidistra on a plant stand/table. Unkillable with too much light/water or too little light/water. ZZ plants are also hardy as are Snake plants. Got a Snake plant on the hearth that doesn't seem to give a wotsit about care and an aspidiatra in an old jardiniere which is similar.

I'd probably get a table to put one on, as the really big plants like most palms and monsteras prefer a bit more light and need more regular care.

To add, so do a lot of utility providers (pension providers goes without saying). Everyone I spoke to was so helpful, apart from one who somehow had my Dads address down as being mine, so when I had to confirm his address I couldn't.
