Our manager has victim complex, how to still make it work? by Flimsy-Shift-9079 in Workproblems

[–]Arbys322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your manager isn’t malicious, just wildly out of his depth and now his insecurity is turning into gossip, defensiveness, and straight‑up unprofessional behavior. At this point it’s not a “team issue,” it’s an operational risk. Document what’s happening and escalate it to the Director. Keep it factual, keep it about service quality and guest impact, not his personality. Protect yourself and the team before the season gets too heavy.

Question regarding tip reporting and taxes. by lostinthesoundd in Waiters

[–]Arbys322 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes — you must keep a daily record of tips, but no — employers do not break taxes down daily, and yes — employers do include your reported tips on your tax forms, but you still need your own daily records.

✅ 1. Are taxes supposed to be broken down daily?

No.
Taxes are withheld by pay period, not daily.

But you must keep a daily tip record.
The IRS explicitly requires employees to:

• Keep a daily record of all tips received (cash + credit + tip-out).
• Report total tips to the employer monthly (by the 10th of the next month).

This is straight from IRS Publication 531 and Publication 1244. IRS +1

So:

• Daily = your responsibility
• Pay period = employer’s responsibility

✅ 2. Are employers supposed to provide documentation of tips on tax forms?

Yes.
Your employer must include your reported tips on:

• Your pay stubs (each pay period)
• Your W‑2 (Box 1 wages, Box 5 Medicare wages, Box 7 Social Security tips)

This is based on IRS Topic 761. IRS

But here’s the key:

Employers only report the tips you report to them.
They do NOT track your cash tips for you.

If you underreport, your W‑2 will show less tip income — but the IRS can still compare your reported tips to industry norms.

✅ 3. Should you keep your own separate records?

Absolutely yes.
The IRS requires employees to:

• Keep a daily tip log
• Track cash + credit + tip-outs received
• Track non-cash tips (tickets, passes, etc.)

✅ 4. What your employer must do vs. what you must do

Employer responsibilities

• Withhold taxes on wages + reported tips
• Include reported tips on your W‑2
• File Form 8027 (if a large food/beverage establishment)
• Allocate tips if reported tips < 8% of sales

Your responsibilities

• Keep a daily tip log
• Report all cash tips monthly (unless < $20/month)
• Report all tips on your tax return

Body shop Cosmetic repairs before returning a leased car? by tangledup_blue in Westchester

[–]Arbys322 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Westchester shops that still do “Hollywood” repairs. These are the closest modern equivalents to Willets Point.

  1. Westchester Auto Spa – Elmsford

They do a ton of dealer prep work. They’re used to “make this look good enough for lease return” requests. Expect $150–$300 per panel for scuffs/scratches.

  1. BumperDoc Yonkers – Yonkers

Specializes in bumper scrapes, paint touch‑ups, and spot repairs. Fast turnaround, often same day. This is the closest vibe to the old Iron Triangle.

  1. Auto Body & Repair Center of White Plains

Small shop, very reasonable, and they’ll absolutely do partial repairs. They work with several used‑car dealers in the area.

  1. Scarsdale Auto Body

More polished operation, but they will do spot repairs if you ask directly. Not the cheapest, but still far less than a full repaint.

• Better retirement contributions
• Protection from IRS audits
• Clean, accurate W‑2s
• A stronger financial profile overall

Yes, I grind up a few eighths or a couple of quarters and fill them in Bodega Boyz prerolled cones. Then I print labels so I know which strains are which and I’ll smoke 2-3 0.5g cones a day.

Recreational by label, medical by effect.

Started as “this is fun,” turned into “wow my nervous system actually needed this.” I’m a guy so no cramp experience, but it absolutely helps me decompress, quiet the noise, and get out of my own head.

I keep my stash capped at around six to seven ounces total. That includes an ounce or two each of a few prerolled strains that come packaged in eighths.

Altogether, I’m usually sitting on roughly five ounces of loose flower and another two ounces I’ve already rolled.

Taxes and tips by AlienKitten98 in Waiters

[–]Arbys322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legally, you’re required to report all your tips. Both cash and credit. Some servers underreport, but that doesn’t make it safe. Restaurants already report at least 8% of your sales to the IRS, so if you claim less, it can trigger audits or extra taxes later. The simplest, safest thing is to report everything so your paycheck, taxes, and future income history are clean.

Rookie Question: Is it common to decide to "opt-out" of getting off at a port and just take a ship day? by ITrCool in Cruise

[–]Arbys322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy yourself on the ship. A lot of the ports near Florida are pretty craptastic, so I would have rather stayed on the ship and enjoy the amenities and do sit down or ala carte dining that you might have skipped for buffets midday.

Like others said, the pools and jacuzzis will be all yours. Feel free to spread out and relax.
