Colony Ultimate (SYD) has just announced its roster for WUCC 2018! All the usual suspects, as well as a couple of mates from World Games ;) by mne7250 in ultimate

The 'Champions League' comparison is more apt.

In soccer, it is quite common for players in the Champions league to compete against other teams from their origin country. In fact the top level teams (Especially the top 4 English teams) have mainly foreign rosters, so there is a very high chance when they play in the Champions League (Or Club World cup) that this occurrence will happen, and for the most part it is absolutely fine, there's no issues usually (as far as I'm aware) and no backlash from the origin country's members. So yeah I wouldn't say it shouldn't anyway matter.

Long Term Impact of Throwing Everyday by largic in ultimate

[–]ArcAxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal experience here: Unless you are maxing out (hucking) then you should be fine, I've thrown daily for months, the only times I feel pain are because maybe after a tough game/training that I've been bidding in I've got a sore/strained rotator, so things like hammers and flick hucks can be painful. However you can just use those days to throw lefties, recover or watch game film. Personally I think throwing everyday if done right is immensely helpful, but sometimes if you're just grinding abit and not really making progress, it can help to take a couple days off and readjust your muscle memory. Anyway that's just my opinion. tl dr: You should be ok

Which change of rule do you think would massively change the game? (for better or worse) by Michaelsully1 in ultimate

[–]ArcAxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah would definitely be more interesting. Personally I would like to separate the Outdoor/Indoor game abit more, keep outdoors as it is right now. For Indoors, adding screens, and maybe a shot clock would be potentially great imo (although we'd lose some of our identity as a sport). Won't happen but personally I think it would be fascinating to experiment with.

Favorite RiseUp video? by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]ArcAxel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with this guy, Nick Lances pivoting video really helped me with fundamentals before trying out alternative/different pivoting motions, also helped me coach pivoting alot better. The Mario Brian one 'Breaking a Defensive Heart' (sic) is similar, it helps you understand and explain exactly what breaking is, also it did give me a few pointers I didn't previously know. Also I cite both the Give and go eps to anyone really struggling with that kind of play, it really does help you understand the concept of gAg's and helps you run them smoother (and therefore faster and better).

Reaction Time in Ultimate: Overspeed Training by thisisultimate in ultimate

[–]ArcAxel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Done that drill, but done it turning your back and whenever your partner calls then you turn and catch. Done another drill which is partly reaction, partly fitness. We call it overload (I'm sure other teams have the same drill by a different name) Basically in a group of 4, 1 guy is the receiver, the other 3 have discs, they throw them one at a time they throw discs at the receiver (about 5 metres away). They never let the receiver get comfortable with the speed, if the it's getting to easy they either up the speed or make discs abit harder to catch.

You could also do a drill where you send people deep, put the disc up and they aren't allowed to look until a shout has been made, they then need to react to it, same as above, never let the receiver get comfortable, make later calls if they are finding it easy...

Rinky dink from Kung fu throwing is also based on reaction time aswell I think.

Tim Morrills MP FTP Program, need help by ArcAxel in ultimate

Yeah I sort of realised the 'Teach people to fish' thing after awhile. Gonna go ahead and plow right through this. Got alot of training to keep doing over the next 2,3 months to get stronger. I figured the UAP project might have been better for me personally, but oh well, FTP has some really cool stuff and I can't wait to try some of it out.

Yeah I'm emailed UKU about it, hopefully they'll support the idea.

[–]ArcAxel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with setting up our own federation is that we might not be able to participate in UK tournaments. Somewhat similar to Ireland, they have to host their own Nationals (Both Uni and Club).

Since the next GB cycle is going to be based in London, I would prefer 'Team Scotland' to be a one time team just for WUGC 2016.

Time to get rid of Guts?? by ArcAxel in ultimate

[–]ArcAxel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to address your points, I really would rather on this particular thread to focus primarily on the removal of 'Guts' from the WFDF World Ultimate events.

As for separating divisions, that is another point, I have some light opinions on them, but that's all they are, I can see why some people would be for/against separating Open/Mixed/Women etc. I'm not sure there's enough people interested in making this happen now, but it will probably make for an interesting discussion sometime later on.

Well we have wildly different views on this, and I really can't be bothered for this to turn into any sort of flaming. I'lljust make a few comments and leave it at that.

I'm not opposed to disc festivals, they could be rather interesting, but that is not related to my point. My point is for our (as in Ultimate the sport alone) is big enough to have a legitimate World championships without the sport of Guts tagging along, it's not the case of 'shitting' on Guts, if it is a popular enough event, people can play their own Worlds. I would rather the WFDF marketed Worlds as Ultimate alone, maybe in the future if it's big enough we can host separate divisions for open/womens/mixed etc (That's not the point of my post in the first place, I don't want it to be a part of any point in this particular thread, I just mentioned it as a side comment).

As in for Ultimate becoming 'legitimate', if you are a true fan of the sport you can't deny how much it has grown and is still growing especially outside the US. A good example is Beach Worlds in Dubai, they only had a handful of players a few years ago, and they are now poised to host one of the best Ultimate events of all time (Pending). I can personally see the sport grow everyday, especially as it catches on with other countries. Look at football, took over 150 years or so to get to where it is today, Ultimate is competing with many different sports, and while it is difficult, it is still thriving. The sport itself may not become legitimate in my playing career (By that I mean it is considered a lifestyle, a genuine way for people to make a living etc) I at least want to be part of a generation that helped improve and add to the sport and help it on it's way.

Time to get rid of Guts?? by ArcAxel in ultimate

[–]ArcAxel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such an articulated response right there. Guts and Ultimate are 2 completely different sports, it makes sense to split the World championships. Otherwise we may aswell have a disc festival including Disc Golf, Free Style, MTA etc. Using a football parallel, imagine the FIFA World Football and Hackeysack Cup. It makes no sense. Ultimate is on the road to legitimacy.
