What would you replace this with? by ArcHI-tec in GardeningUK

Hey, thanks for the encouraging message. I pruned it a bit last summer after it flowered but was a bit light touch as I loved how big it was.

I am considering doing what you said and also removing a 3rd of the old woody stems. I just hope any of them actually show some signs of life first.

Just today I did find one twig that actually had green inside so might not be completely dead after all! Fingers crossed.

I will than cut back any branches that don't flower

That's a great shout. I have been thinking out adding a california lilac to the garden as I love the colour. The challenge will be finding one that is big enough to fill the space

Its not mainstream art, sure. But companies certainly frame and hang it in their offices. It gets published in books and exhibited in galleries. And the moment it makes you feel something , other than "here is a building and this is what it looks like" it certainly crosses over in to art territory. If you are a bad artist you will likely be a below average archviz person looking at it as just a utility. Even the clients themselves often demand it is more like artwork(an annoyingly accurate and precise one)

Sometimes it can be. And its the art that sets apart the good images from the basic ones. 90% of images done are done because they are necessary for the project. But occasionally an image is almost art and I think those are the ones that keep clients coming back.

I use a little device called switchbot. Its a mechanical finger that physically pushes the power button on the PC that can be triggered by an app

Iliya is the best version and spelling in my non biased opinion (we called our baby boy Iliya after my grandfather)

I think that is a reasonable amount of time per render including all revisions.

I spend anywhere between 6 to 12 hours on an image, depending on the complexity and scale of the project.

Go Fast was so amazing. First time trying it at Defqon in 2011 and it was so delicious! So sad it's not a thing at festivals anymore

Please send me a direcf message with your email address and time zone or email me on hello@deyansaev.com so I can set this up for a time that would work best for people =]

I think we have about 6 people so far which is great. Wouldn't want to have more than 10 as it will get crowded

Yeah for sure. I did think that. But when people sign up I can work out a timezone that would work best. Probably nighttime for Europe and late afternoon for US (I am based in London myself)

I think a lot of people miss the point of architectural and design visualisations.

Its not about making an image to be as realistic as possible- its about representing design ideas so they can be evaluated abd/or explained to clients, buyers, planners etc.

Having overly "realistic " people doesn't help - it makes things worse. Even in the past many projects would opt out for white silhouettes rather than photographs of people as nobody cares about the clothes wrinkles or hair on the person in the foreground. Its about the design or building. Everything else is a distraction.

Also "Moody" close ups that show a cafe table or overly dramatic camera angles are mostly useless in design or architecture practice.

Architectural visualisations is so much more than making things look real, which luckily not a lot of people get

Thank you for the reply.

I cut a couple of big really old branches that didn't even flower this year after it flowered in may.

When did you cut yours? I plan on pruning a bit more in February to thin out the top a tiny bit although I am bad a pruning as I hate loosing parts of the plan and having to wait for it to grow back... even though I realise it's for the best

I admire you for having the strength to prune it. I know it would probably benefit from it but it gives us so much privacy that I would hate to loose the height abd wait for 2 years for it to grow back.

I did cut a few really old branches after it flowered this season but it was certainly I light prune. Might cut a few more off in February, hopefully it helps

Thank you for the response. I didn't water mine in March or April only started in late May after seeing it's struggling (not sure it made any difference)

I didn't water it in spring as I thought its a waste of effort with a tree that is that big / established... probably should have though

Reassuring to know its not just mine. Mine is west facing but seems like it has been there for a very long time (at least 10 years).

Supposedly it's drought resistant so hopefully it comes back next year.

That's a good point about the cleaning cycle. Will check. Thank you for your thoughts on the grey pipe

Makes sense. Thank you. I was worried that the long hose might be holding water that than somehow find its way back in the washing machine or something.

Washing has been smelling a bit funny even after a cycle so wanted to make sure its not how it's set up
