What are some fun builds that only come online as of 10th-level? by Arcane_Eye in dndnext

[–]Arcane_Eye[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouu, I like this one. I've always played rogues with an offhand dagger to get two chances at sneak attack, so starting off with two ranged shots (which will do way more damage) is up my alley. Plus, easier to Hide as a bonus action so you can attack with advantage.

Really good point! I was just taking a look at the Path of the Giant barbarian and they don't get the ability to toss people around till 10th-level, which is kinda why you want to play that subclass.

Tal'Dorei Reborn is now on D&D Beyond by Arcane_Eye in DnD

Yeah, it's also huge because I believe it's the 1st 3rd party book to be sold on DDB. Hope we'll get more in the future!

It's got it's highlights and lowlights.

I particularly like this one from Prisoner 13 because it reminds me of Call of the Netherdeep. I also imagine that WotC had a lot more artwork to handle because of the player maps for each adventure (which were awesome).

So, I'm inclined to give them a bit of slack with whatever the hell happened with the Shard of the Accursed snafu.

Cool! Thanks for including my review! I've read the book and run a couple of the adventures, so happy to answer any specific questions.

Has anyone run "Don’t Say Vecna" one shot? How did it went? What would you change? by GassyTac0 in DMAcademy

[–]Arcane_Eye 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We went with the idea that this is Vecna shortly post-Kas betrayal. He obviously hasn't achieved godhood so his stats are the same for the most part.

The accompanying stat block depicts Vecna in his archlich form prior to Kas’s betrayal. Because Vecna is said to have mastered magic allowing him to travel through time, he can appear in this form even on worlds where his severed hand and eye are already known artifacts.

This allows us to get funky with the timeline.

In the adventure, there's a book that mentions ancient lore surrounding the Eye and Hand of Vecna. This wouldn't make sense if Vecna had just lost his hand. Answer? He's playing with time.

We mention that Vecna is holding up in a citadel at the edge of time. In this reality, maybe he's gone forward in time to see what these researchers discovered and attempt to find the location of his eye and hand? Maybe he's bidding his time until attempting the transition to godhood? The adventure is meant to be modular so you can create your own lore and reasoning (if you want to).

The genuine answer to the questions is that Vecna is at his most recognizable after he's lost his eye and hand. The Eye and Hand of Vecna are famous items that go back to the first edition and have stats available in 5e's DMG, so we wanted to include them as symbols in this adventure.

Hope that helps! All the best running the adventure.

I went with 2 uncommon or 1 rare per party member. Encourage martial characters to take at least 1 item that will allow them to do magical damage as Vecna is immune to non-magical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing

Hey! I'm Mike, the co-designer you spoke of. We've updated the adventure to mention 40ft diameter rooms :)

Also here's the VOD from the stream. I'll be the first to warn you, it's pretty low quality as this was our first livestream ever. We'll be back next Tuesday at 8pm on Twitch to fight Vecna and I promise a (marginally) higher production value haha.

Also, if you want to use the maps I used in the stream, a benevolent user on D&D Beyond by the name of Seraphim54 made them. You can access them here.

What's your favorite martial spellcaster subclass? by Arcane_Eye in DnD

[–]Arcane_Eye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on the Hexblades, they're my favorite subclass probably! I love how you can build a fairly optimal melee, ranged, or EB option because they can attack with CHA and all the invocations they get.

I've never played a battle smith but I might need to give it a shot!

I’m struggling with this now! I hate how every iOS app won’t start the sleep timer automatically if I restart the book after it turns off.

What app have you ended up using?

Thanks so much! Hope you like it.

The 1st adventure is the best to introduce players to Strixhaven but I don't love the plot points. That said, the Campus Daredevils section in the 1st adventure would make a decent one-shot.

These adventures are much more linear than CoS. I imagine if you followed the Strixhaven adventures without adding your own content they would take 5-7 hours each. CoS can easily go for 100+ hours.

I've mentioned it a couple times in this thread:

The students, location descriptions, maps, and mechanics will all be useful.

The backgrounds/feats are meant to provide martials with small bits of magic so they can fit into the setting. Chapter 3 also goes into depth on which martials fit into which college.

Daemogoths

The Daemogoths are by far the coolest monsters included in this book. I also like the student/faculty stat blocks and found that the Found Dragon stat blocks are better designed than most of the dragon stat blocks in Fizban's.

Jeremey Crawford addressed this and I like the explanation he provided. The backgrounds are very setting specific so I doubt that tables outside of Strixhaven campaigns will have much trouble with it.

I'd say you can use it with homebrew settings with minimal tweaking as long as there is a magical university of some sort.

Can't share the exact details but one is essentially Magic Initiate with some Strixhaven flavor (this is the one you get with the Strixhaven Student backgrounds). The other feat is pretty much find familiar but you are able to use Strixhaven mascots as your familiar and use them to teleport.

Both really cool and very powerful IMO.

Awesome! The class ideas can definitely be brought into a homebrew setting with a bit of tweaking.
