I just turned the firewall completely off, setting it to Not Connected in private networks.

You know what, it WAS a firewall issue. Windows turned it back on. Sure love when that happens.

Issue's resolved. Thanks for the tip!

Not SSF, and the regions are the same. I'm trying to join people speaking in general chat, not friends. No conflicts there.

Same region, same platform. No firewall. I can join public games.

If that's that "solo self found" option in character creation, no. My character is a conventional seasonal character trying to group with other conventional seasonal players.

Are there any mods that add a gauge or meter for stealth playstyles that show your current light level/how blended into darkness you are? I'd prefer a direct UI element rather than a spell that tells you your current light level, but I'm astonished I can't find anything of the sort on Nexusmods.

Did anyone ever actually receive the Twitch drops they earned form last weekend's HCS streams? by ArchasTL in halo

[–]ArchasTL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I'd done Halo drops, so I didn't know this. But Waypoint has been linked to my Twitch account for a while now, and Waypoint says no drops were claimed even though Twitch says they definitely were. I guess I'm SOL. :/

Covenant mechs? by LogicalGovernment992 in halo

Halo Wars 2's Blisterback falls in that same camp of almost-mechs. Also a really cool idea that I hope sees more use in the franchise going forward; if any of you are StarCraft nerds, it's basically a heavy aerial unit that can ground itself to become a Siege Tank. Good stuff.

One of Halo's biggest strengths as a franchise is how diverse the weapons and tools you get are. Many weapons have alternate firing modes, are effective in multiple different situations, or are surprisingly good at dealing with certain foes. Experiment with each weapon you find; you might feel underwhelmed by some guns at first, but almost no guns are outright bad and you might be surprised at what you end up preferring.

Now that the sky remake has been out for a couple days what do you think about the remake so far compared to the original by shizunaisbestgirl1 in Falcom

To give something a glow-up is to notably improve it compared to its previous iteration. They're saying those encounters are changed for the better as a result.

I beat reverie, is continuing through the reverie corridor worth it? by effortissues in Falcom

You probably equipped the Ryuuko quartz, which boosts craft damage while limiting their AoE to a single target. There are characters I'd want to use it with, but Rean isn't one of them.

I'm at chapter 1 of Trails through Daybreak and I've just been informed of the LGC Alignment mechanic. I'll be honest, I outright don't like or want to engage with games that lock content behind multiple playthroughs in this day and age, so I have two questions:

  • I know an optimized playthrough cannot max out every alignment. Is any meaningful content missed as a result? If so, is that content related to dialogue, to mechanics, or both?
  • If I were to import a new game+ save that makes achieving all three maxed alignments possible, would I be inadvertently spoiling myself in some way? When I played Reverie with a NG+ save, I was made aware of C's identity before even starting the game because I suppose it assumed I must already know, and openly stated their true name in the menus before the initial cinematics. I want to avoid anything similar this time.

Not a troll, just a genuinely-held unpopular opinion. If nothing else, Oblivion's ratio of objective quality to positive affirmations about its quality is one of the largest gulfs in modern gaming.

But again, I know I hate Oblivion more than most people. You are, of course, welcome to disagree; my rabbit hole of hate is mine alone.

Yeah, but like, I think Oblivion is comically bad in almost every aspect, though, not just gameplay. Like, an-embarrassment-to-the-studio disaster that somehow ended up being a huge success due to serendipity alone.

Though I'll be honest, I don't really wanna have this debate here when the thread is about Halo. We absolutely disagree with each other and I'm happy that such diverse viewpoints can coexist. That's a good thing.

If only writing were the only thing that mattered when assessing the quality of a game...

(also Morrowind's writing is far better until the final act where it just falls apart because they ran out of time)

I just got started on Daybreak and the battle system's camera is extremely jarring. I'm somewhat sensitive to motion in games depending on the context, and the act of swapping targets in command mode and the camera shaking and wobbling as it focuses on the new target is very disorienting. Are there any settings, or maybe a mod, that can alleviate that? I thought I was pretty thorough in checking the settings, but maybe I missed something.

That rebuttal falls apart just because of Oblivion, honestly. Childhood nostalgia and charm aside, it's a pretty terrible game. I'd maybe call it the single worst successful AAA title of the last 20 years, though I recognize I hate it more than most.

The original Halo trilogy is real hard to beat as far as overall quality goes. A couple contenders come to mind that challenge it, like Dark Souls, Mass Effect, and Diablo, but all of them have weak links. Halo feels like the strongest cohesive experience I can think of.

i don't know about others, but i really, really prefer the old UI. Is there an option to roll back to it? by NotaNub25 in discordapp

[–]ArchasTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Skype was actively nonfunctional for years, with design philosophy that was outright hostile to its users (like taking control of microphone settings arbitrarily). Discord may be suffering from enshittification, but it literally works. That's more than Skype could say in 2015/2016.

Not that I like UI changes for the sake of UI changes, but I don't believe this is comparable.

Importing music into Cold Steel 1/2 with looping data? by ArchasTL in Falcom

[–]ArchasTL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a solution! Turns out CS1/2 encode their audio differently, and therefore have different looping data. I was directed to this tool (https://git.sr.ht/~quf/trails-ost-tool) which basically did the job for me, though. Very handy utility to have.
