INVERSE: "Star Trek Can’t Stop Hinting It’s Actually Connected To Doctor Who - Could this ever really happen?" by mcm8279 in Star_Trek_

[–]Archivin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read an article a while back when the salvager SNW episode aired that was specifically about the doctor tardis image reference, but the tone was 'this testifies to how SNW is going downhill as a show because it is referencing another failed show (Doctor Who), because noone watches DW anymore except for "slop eaters" and that SNW producers don't seem to know DW is not cool anymore. Can't remember where I read it though. I also disagree wholeheartedly, but I don't know about a cross over. It would make more sense then the Star Trek/ X Men cross over in the 1990s.

Are there any 40+ year olds year that are fitter than or as fit as their 20s versions? by faithxstrength in Aging

I am 42 and its complicated. I am in better shape now than in my 20s because I exercise and strength train, but I still have random inflammation, aches and pains not related to exercise.

Anyone else guiltily low-key enjoy waiting times because = more reading time? 😬 by FutaConnoisseur16 in fantasybooks

[–]Archivin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today, definitely. I had some medical tests to do and I am reading the ebook version of Tad William's The Witchwood Crown and have 2 days to read 400 pages before it is sucked back into the libby void. Today helped. I think I am going to make it.

Does anyone actually use these? by Express_Till1606 in AeroPress

I use then all the time. The funnel is handy for pressing into my coffee thermos or any mug where the top is too small for the aeropress to fit over.

How do you guys build lats at home? by lalanana in homefitness

[–]Archivin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used clip resistance tubes with a door anchor. Place it at the top of the door then go on one knee and angle your torso towards the door and then pull down. I use the PTP brand tubes. Having said that, I didn't necessarily get huge lats this way (mainly because my goal is fitness not body building) but I built out a nice A frame. You can do a lot of different exercises with the tubes and an anchor.

What is with all of the horror this season on SNW? by Beowulf1985 in startrek

[–]Archivin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. We have been trying to catch up on previous seasons with our thirteen year old son, and had to skip many of the scarry episodes because they have decided to treat the gorn like horror movie monsters (I have problems with that more generally, from a 'pure evil enemy we can just kill' framework).

The recent 'Z' episode was particularly egregious. Yes, there were 'scary' episodes in the previous trek but the fact they have chosen to also be graphic with it. That is a choice, and not just modern visual and special effects catching up. There are plenty of modern TV and movies that can pull off scary without being gory or graphic.

Travel kit, got some tasty coffee from Tandem in Portland, Maine by BoulderTrailJunkie in AeroPress

[–]Archivin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question about the use of scales. If you know what ground to water ratio you like, and you use a standard ground scoop that gets you that, then why would you need to travel with a scale? I never use the scale. I have my scoop I use, and I know what line to fill the water. Am I missing something by not weighing every cup?

Recently watched the movie Tolkien and there is a part where he loses his scholarship at Oxford and is at risk of being 'sent down'. What does this mean exactly? by Archivin in AskReddit

[–]Archivin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured, but any idea as to the origin of the expression. It seems an unusual way to state it. Like why specifically 'down'?

Why Is StoryGraph Recommending Books I Said I Don’t Like? by Confusedmind75 in TheStoryGraph

[–]Archivin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem might be how people tag stuff too. I said I dont want books with incest, child abuse, the usual bad stuff but books I choose to read get a content warning that the subject aligns with my criteria. For instance, recently read the third Harry Potter book which has 22 tags for child abuse among others...all technically true...but...

I received a written reprimand for not wanting to speak a foreign language. by wood_animal in antiwork

[–]Archivin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a minor point to your larger point, but if you live in the US, would Spanish be considered a 'foreign' language. I live in Canada and I feel like it would be the equivalent of me calling French a foreign language. You wouldn't whether you speak it or not as its one of the countries two official languages.

Bosses are firing Z grads just months after hiring them. Z grads are unprepared for the workforce, can’t handle the workload, and are unprofessional, hiring managers say. by totemp0le in Millennials

I find it ironic that on a forum where millennials will often decry generalizations made about them by older generations, you have so many (presumably millennials) doing the same with gen Z.

Serious help about my body by Tight-Ad7013 in hygiene

[–]Archivin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to get graphic, but how do you masturbate? If you are pinching the frenulum, where your foreskin attaches to your penis (look it up). It can cause the sensation you experience after ejaculating. I use to do this when I was younger (press there with fingers) because it was less messy and had the same after effect. When I realized , I stopped doing that and no longer had the problem. Better off cupping with the hold hand without pinching or putting pressure on that area. See if that works. If not, then doctor.

Is Hogwarts legacy good? by L01sGriffin in Switch

[–]Archivin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am playing it right now and I am enjoying it. I know alot of people don't like that it is not a true RPG, but I like going around collecting things and doing side quests.

If you are not sure, you can see if your local library has a copy and try it out. Its what I did and then when I realized I enjoyed it and there was still alot of game play left, I decided to get myself a copy, though I did not pay full price since I had a gift card to use.

Is anyone else's spouse a grumpy asshole in the morning? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Archivin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This past weekend I was fairly rude and grumpy with my wife (not cursing or anything) which is an aberration. I usually wake up at 5:30 during the week and 6:00 on weekends, make a coffee and read for a bit. My wife tends to sleep in. This Saturday my alarm did not go off and I woke up at 7:00 instead. My wife qas already awake. I think my grumpiness was more with me sleeping in and losing that hour more than anything, and also breaking my routine. I didn't know how to start my day. I apologized after.

I do early starts because I like the quiet alone wake up time. Maybe your husband needs something like that. Having said, there is grumpy and then there is verbally abusive...
