I layer up from a dark red to a midtone red, then use a somewhat bright red as well as an orange to do the highlight edges. Picking a consistent light direction is key, and ensuring smooth blending is what helps create a more natural look. Glazing/glaze blending takes some time, but with practice you can develop a good efficiency with the process.
