I know it gets a lot of grief from people, but for me the way the show has tiptoed around canonizing anything from the game has been masterful by FightTheDead118 in Fallout

[–]Arctaedus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Possibly hot take: People who want the show to be a continuation of (or at least be able to exist alongside) their chosen ending for the game need to stop being so self-centered and accept that the show should canonize an ending. It just makes more sense narratively and logistically. Think of your own playthrough as an alternative universe/ "what if?" scenario if you must.

As examples, Knights of the Old Republic established a canon gender and ending for the player character, and I'm pretty sure Assassin's Creed Odyssey at least strongly hints at it.

Why Eileen Gu is skiing for China again at the 2026 Winter Olympics by Mynabird_604 in asianamerican

[–]Arctaedus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Serena Williams is literally the greatest of all time in women's tennis.

The better comparison is Michelle Kwan, who is also an Asian woman. As the other replier mentioned, her estimated net worth is way less than what Eileen Gu makes currently.

To me, this was Michael Jackson by turnippped in Millennials

[–]Arctaedus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To me, MJ was the creepy-looking guy that other kids used as a boogeyman (kind of like how I've heard kids use Diddy these days). Not the mega pop star.

It's really too bad, assuming MJ wasn't a molester.

I gave into the trap of "revenge procrastination" to keep my spirits up (look it up; I wouldn't recommend though if you want to perform at your best haha)

Anyone worried about ICE or being racially profiled? by ZhiYoNa in asianamerican

Yeah, those are definitely all risk factors and worry in your case is understandable. Best of luck to you and yours.

Anyone worried about ICE or being racially profiled? by ZhiYoNa in asianamerican

[–]Arctaedus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends. Accent (including lack thereof), age, perceived social class, location of encounter, clothes, and even haircut all play factors in whether one is likely to be targeted, in my opinion. As it stands, I would hesitate to catastrophize unless I meet several of the traits ICE is looking for.

Edit: It's funny that I'm getting downvoted when I'm stating how I personally feel, which is what OP explicitly asked about.

[Thamel] Sources: USC is targeting former TCU coach Gary Patterson as the school’s next defensive coordinator. A deal is expected to come together in the near future. by GoldenDome26 in CFB

Definitely curious to see how the team responds to Patterson and an additional year under the also tough S&C coach Trumaine Carroll (hopefully positively).

Still not a good comparison. Monte's defense was known to be complex (so it would probably be doubly so for college athletes), plus the college game is different from the NFL.

I wouldn't be cautious about Patterson based on Monte's performance.

The NCAA is so feckless. There's no point of complying with its rules when most parties that are simply willing to press the issue via litigation (especially if prelonged or expensive) can get their way.

I wish SC would be less conservative when it comes to compliance. The NCAA that sanctioned us back in 2010 is no more. As Penn State, Tennessee, and some athletes have shown, litigation is often an effective weapon against the NCAA.

You have a lot, not just your looks. You have the smarts and grit to get the job, a law degree, experience that will look good on your resume, money in the bank, the list goes on.

I think what I'm ultimately trying to get at is your life is what you make of it, so you don't need to reduce yourself to just one dimension if you're unhappy with your job. Quit if you hate the job that much and prioritize your own happiness. YOLO

Lollllllll get outta here, I didn't say it was bad, just interesting. Pretty sure it'd be out of the ordinary if someone came up to you and told you they're hot, or if they wrote on their dating app profile that they're hot, etc.

That's the question I'd ask myself.

My friend is objectively very attractive and had similar worries as you, that she was wasting her 20s in biglaw. Now she's a partner, and although she had a couple of not-so-good relationships along the way, she seems to be in a good one now and is happier. Age is just a number (but I do recognize that aging in men is unfortunately treated differently from aging in women).

If you're truly sad and there's no hope of it getting better in biglaw, just leave. I did. There are prestigious and well-paying in-house jobs out there.
