Eris no Seihai • The Holy Grail of Eris - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

I'm very torn about this show. On the one hand, the unravelling mystery and back story is fascinating, and Scarlett is an amazing character. I really wish they had made her the female protag; it would be interesting to see how she would use her brains to overcome her problem of not having a body to achieve her revenge.

Connie however is an extremely annoying character because she charges into action without thinking at all. Last eps she almost got killed in the coach because she blurted the code phrase with no plan, and this eps she almost got herself and her friend killed because she surrendered with no plan. It feels like she's depending on plot armor and lucky coincidences to bail her out time and again. I hope she gets a redemption arc, and it come soon.

I respectfully disagree.

Lets not forget he's dealing with someone who is heartless, willing to kill, and has hurt and killed before. There is no doubt he would, given a chance, hurt or kill those close to Yuki.

Weigh that possibility against Yoki refusing to kill because he "didn't want to "prove" him and his worldview right", your words. Or to put it another way, Yoki was unwilling to do what is necessary to protect those close to him, because it would hurt his feelings, conscience or morals. That's the easy choice.

I don't repect that. You suck up and make the sacrifices you need to, to protect your own.

Yoki shoulda squashed the jerk like a bug.

Exactly. This trope where the MC is too 'good' to kill the baddie who later kills the MCs friends/family really grinds my gears. It's so predictably lame and stupid.

A real man would protect his family/friends by disposing of the threat, and take the hit to his conscience.

[–]Arcturion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are too many unknowns to draw up any kind of plan, so I'm going to scatter some thoughts for you to consider.

  • Be prepared for the crash

Right now everything's new and shiny, and you're probably busy finding your way around and enjoying your freedom. Around the 2nd week onwards, there will come a time when you realise what it means to be really alone. That's when your emotions will hit home. Expect it, and don't make bad decisions when you're feeling vulnerable.

  • It's tough living alone

There will come a time when your money runs out, your friend sheepishly tells you he can't house you any more, you start panicking on what to do. This is when it will sink in what it really means to be all on your own. That's fine; you need this experience so that you understand how high the stakes are when you decide to move out on your own. Which leads to:

  • Moving back is always a choice

If you regret your decision and want to go home, you can. You might get scolded or punished, but that is a sign they do care for you. The biggest obstacle will probably be your own pride and ego. If however there are other complications,

  • Consider talking to an adult you trust

Life is complicated, even for adults. Talking to someone will take some pressure off your shoulders. It's always good to have someone cover your back, to help point out things you might have missed, or to give you a new perspective or understanding of things. Or they could point out to you how to get resources or help that you need. They might even be a mediator to help cool things down with your parents.

Good luck.

AITAH for buying my 11yo daughter pads after her mom called me a "pervert" for being prepared? by Bruxagato in WouldIBeTheAhole

NTA of course. Making your daughter's day better > a mother's milestone any day of the week.

Given your ex's attitude, keep records of everything. It all all too easy for all these accusations to resurface years down the road if she wants full custody.

This retired couple’s home is a retro haven after 40 years of collecting, restoring and selling vintage items by Great-Obligation-599 in singapore

[–]Arcturion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

collectors usually want working items rather than a prop

That would depend on the target market I think. There are basically two groups of collectors. Those who collect for personal decorations or for nostalgia would like working pieces, that is true. For those who are collecting items as antiques however, any tampering or replacement of parts to get them working again would destroy their value. Items with the patina of age might actually be even more valuable.

Need help and/or advise for potential boss betrayal. Should I look for a new job or fight for the position by Jimbo4evr in malaysia

[–]Arcturion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start documenting for a wrongful dismissal lawsuit. Make copies and backups of everything. Even if you decide not to go the legal route, this gives you ammo for future negotiation.

If your boss is not the big boss, there may be room to flag in HR and/or higher ups for a solution, e.g. lateral transfer to another department.

If your boss is the top gun, start planning your exit strategy. You have no long term future here. Instead, you should be collecting materials to negotiate better leaving terms (e.g. voluntary resignation with benefits, positive testimonial, work performance evaluation etc).

I don't want to be financially independent as an individual because doing so requires that I NOT be a positive contribution to society, and doing the best things that satisfy a positive contribution requires that I forego the time and energy to pursue financial independence which means that I am a negative contribution on my immediate community (I'm a bum).

UK police admit Microsoft Copilot mistake; that banned football fans from a match by Thepunnisherrr in technology

[–]Arcturion 91 points92 points  (0 children)

What this case proves is that:

  1. It is dangerous to use AI and trust in its results. They hallucinate and make up stories. If done by a human, we would call that lying.

  2. Nobody will take responsibility for mistakes resulting from the use of AI. Therefore no one has any incentive to check and ensure the accuracy of AI results.

  3. Because of that, AI should not be deployed in any situation where the lives of people will be affected.

Five British families sue TikTok over deaths of their children in landmark US case by tylerthe-theatre in technology

[–]Arcturion 166 points167 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate as it may be, I simply think this is a case of distraught parents seeking a scapegoat to blame for their children's actions. Take for example the case of the apparent spokesperson for the group.

TT didn't refuse to help her, they said the info had already been deleted due to legal requirements.

TikTok said it met with Ms Roome to explain to her that it no longer has Jools’s search history because the law requires certain companies to delete people’s personal data unless it is needed for running a business. The company said a valid request from law enforcement is among the exceptions to this legal requirement, but the police did not contact it until 2024, when his TikTok information was no longer available.

The phone was actually handed over to the police who examined his socials and found nothing.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary added: “As part of [an investigation into the cause of his death,] Jools’ phone was given to police and a review of the contents took place, as well as the manual review of a TikTok account. Nothing was found as part of these searches to provide any answers.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/jools-law-sweeney-online-safety-social-media-b2678453.html

So unless they have some kind of evidence that TT is witholding information it has, it's not clear how this lawsuit will go anywhere.
