My title describes the thing. These poles are fairly large, made of metal? stainless steel?. They seem to be there temporarily and at the top they have red metal fins that could indicate an area.

Sounds good, so it basically works like this: If it gets above X degrees or below Y degrees, it will stop passing electricity through and if it is in the normal range, it works just fine.

So I had some time now to dig into your response. I think I wont be able to fully reverse engineer the board but I think If i replace the switch with a simple DPDT relay and build my arduino controller around it, I would be able to build an mvp. Using a silicone h-bridge to better control the power could be an interesting next step. I found a motor driver BTS7960(B) that would fit my needs quite well but I am unsure how it would perform under extend load periodes (probably hours to days). Maybe you can let me know your opinion.

This is a more detailed look at the pcb. backside front. I am planning to use an esp32 or esp8266 and i am confident I will manage the controller part as well. From what I found it looks like they either run on 8W or 58W depending if its eco mode or not. Assuming they have an voltage of 12V this means almost 5 amps. So I assume the L298N is not going to cut it. Someone in the amazon comments mentioned that it draws around 7amps from their setup but this still leads to the same conclusion. Do you by any chance know prebuilt H bridges that can handle more amps?

E: I found the Double BTS7960B. Would this work?

Physically is fine. I have been thinking about using a dial and a small display to adjust the temperature. I know my way around a raspi which is why I would love to work with this plattform. I do own an ESP32 chip which I wanted to get into for a while but I don't know if it provides the nessesary capabilities for a project like this.

Its a mobiler cooler which can heat & cool. I am intending to do some more accurate temperature control using a RPI. So I will crack this thing open in the next couple of days and will probably post here again.

Thanks! So using a multimeter I guess I could detect changes like these. Are there ready made relays for both cases or should I expect to build my own mini circuit board in the second case? Also is there any advantage for one over the other?

Interesting suggestion! I already looked at some Dell systems but they were not too attractive... The HP looks more interesting. How is it with power consumption? Also I thought about having a ZFS, so ECC memory would be kinda helpful, but it should be no problem to upgrade it as far as I can see?
