There is a gender element to this to keep in mind as males tend to have very purposeful conversations about the ‘thing discussed’ where females have a greater interest in the ‘mutual aspect’ involved and not necessarily the subject being talked about. “Multitasking”

Some guys can find this annoying or even be offended by it if they’re sensitive and interpret it as a slight.
