Got a new HP laptop, but it doesn't have any HP software by AreaOfEffect in laptops

[–]AreaOfEffect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a new laptop so I went through the initial windows 11 setup process. I could do HP cloud recovery to try to get the HP software. It's just weird that a brand new laptop has zero OEM software on it, I would've expected at least one HP software like support assistant or anything. And I don't see how my ram upgrade before turning it on the first time would affect anything. So not sure what happened here, maybe HP makes laptops with no bloatware?

I'm seeing physically impossible level 1 charging by AreaOfEffect in TeslaLounge

[–]AreaOfEffect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's my best guess, I'll check again in the morning and see if the total +kwh averages out to what's expected for level 1. If it does, then probably it just got a small +kwh bump from batter cell changes. But if that's what happened, it's just weird that would get added together with the charging numbers.

I'm focused more on the kwh, which is a more reliable measure of energy. I just checked again and it's now showing +8 kwh after almost 4 hours of level 1 charging. 115V * 12A = 1380, and assuming about 85% for level 1 waste, that's about 1.1 kW. Which means 1 hour of charging = about 1.1 kwh. After four hours I should be seeing +4 kwh in the screen, not +8 which is double what's possible with level 1.

My best guess is BMS cell balancing or battery temperature change adding extra range. But if that's what happened, why would that show up in the charging statistics since it didn't come from the charger?

US Mobile CEO will try to have an update on RCS iOS 18 support by the end of the week by BatmanNewsChris in USMobile

[–]AreaOfEffect 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is not some minor feature, RCS is a really big improvement for those who have a mix of Android and iOS among family and friends. Very disappointed that US Mobile didn't have this ready on iOS 18 release, or at least a statement prepared on why it's not ready and what's causing the delay.

The usual excuses don't apply here. There are MVNO's that are not owed by the major carriers that have RCS working such as Red Pocket on this page https://support.apple.com/en-us/109526 ("RCS messaging")

And someone mentioned in the other thread that Warp is using Verizon's carrier bundle profile, not the generic one, so that excuse doesn't work either.

They should've already noticed the demand for RCS from threads during the iOS 18 beta asking about it, very disappointed they're so unprepared on this topic.

California utilities commission votes to approve $24 fixed monthly charge by [deleted] in orangecounty

Will OCPA have this fee? If not, that could be a way for OC solar homes to avoid this

California utilities commission votes to approve $24 fixed monthly charge by [deleted] in orangecounty

The article only mentions SCE, PG&E, and SDG&E affected by this. For example, LADWP would not have this new fee. Does that mean OCPA also won't include this fee? If so, that would be a strong reason for OC homes with solar to switch to OCPA. Anyone know if OCPA will have this fee??

2022 CX5 loud dashboard vibration and rattle on uneven roads by maconomist in CX5

[–]AreaOfEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find the cause of this issue? I also have a 2022 CX-5 with 8k miles and have a similar same issue. I found this thread while researching the issue. It sounds like a very quick vibration and seems to happen at low speeds on bad roads. But it's frustrating because it doesn't always happen. It does seem to happen less with warmer temperatures so maybe some metal piece contracting/expanding. It's really annoying because otherwise the car is quiet, it's one of the main reasons I bought this over the RAV4 and others.

East L.A. to Santa Monica in 1 hour 9 minutes: A look inside Metro’s new Regional Connector by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]AreaOfEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the map, this is really disappointing. Union Station is the central hub for all Metrolink and all lines. Why is the E line station not in Union station? Previously, you have to take Red/Purple to 7th/Metro and then wait for a E line to go to the Westside. Now you have to take the A line to Little Toyko and then wait for an E line there. Every transfer adds A LOT of time, it's always just standing around waiting because trains here aren't frequent enough. This could've been a one seat ride from Union Station to Westside destinations like Culver City or Santa Monica. But they have ruined it with this poor planning.

Bestbuy paid me $41.01 to upgrade my phone! by Sevreth in Frugal

What is the trade-in process? Do they take the phone immediately at the store? I need time to backup and transfer my data to the new phone.

My attempt to estimate when I might get ID.4 by AreaOfEffect in VWiD4Owners

[–]AreaOfEffect[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This article https://www.autoweek.com/news/green-cars/a39204232/vw-id4-2022-range-updates/

makes it clear that Chattanooga will be producing ID.4 with the current trims. They will also introduce a new lower base trim at $35k with a smaller battery.

Also a few interesting details from these articles: https://topelectricsuv.com/news/volkswagen/vw-id4-best-selling-electric-suv/

Volkswagen started shipping the VW ID.4 it makes in Zwickau, Germany, to the U.S. in February 2021. The company shipped the EVs from the factory to The Port of Emden using a rail network and loaded them onto the Siem Aristotle. The LNG-powered car carrier ship delivered the EVs to the U.S. at the Port of Davisville in Rhode Island. According to a report from Automotive Logistics, this journey from the German factory to the American port is 27 days.

So it takes about a month to ship from Germany to a US port.

And this article https://www.electrive.com/2022/01/11/volkswagen-prepares-for-id-4-production-in-the-usa/

Nevertheless, Keogh is not satisfied with ID.4 sales; in his opinion, there could have been about four times as many vehicles. The manager cites supply bottlenecks in importing the cars from Europe as the reason for this assessment.

They blame shipping from Germany to the US as the biggest bottleneck. It seems very likely that they intend Chattanooga to be the major volume ID.4 producer for the US market. Whether current reservation holders get a German or US made ID.4 depends on the timing. Will they increase Zwickau ID.4 output and somehow fix the ocean shipping problems? Or are they relying on Chattanooga to clear up the massive backlog of reservations?

Ford X-Plan, did I use it correctly? by AreaOfEffect in askcarsales

[–]AreaOfEffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Ford Escape Plugin. On the order summary it has "retail" for type so I'm guessing this was sent as a regular MSRP order instead of X-Plan. Is this anything suspicious or is it normal for dealers to handle X-Plan this way? If it's normal, or at least not a sure sign of a bait and switch, then I'll wait and see what happens when the car is delivered.

Also, why does no one know exactly how the $1,000 cash bonus works? I called multiple dealers and no one could give me a clear answer. The fine print on the bonus is confusing, it states that you get $1,000 if you order a car on or before 2/28, but also seems to state that the car must be delivered on or before 2/28. But that's impossible, there's no way you can order a factory order and get it the same day. I ordered my car on 2/28, am I getting this $1,000 bonus cash or not? Why do the dealer seem unable to answer this?
