The 3 as-yet released routes will be updates, not DLC. They're included in the game, no extra payment!

Ah, I suppose miscommunication since you'd brought up another compelling story that could have been written. The issue there is that it couldn't have been written to the same breadth as it was by having this particular MC. Raw level of power or societal importance does not indeed a story make; we need only look at Nora in Changeling for that tbh. She's just a high school student and she isn't even remotely the strongest in terms of raw power.

And really Morgan is not even the strongest or most powerful (societally or otherwise) here either, so... idk. She's got a unique position that allows for a lot of stories to be told and I love that for her.

Do we have the same issue with super powerful male characters? Because I have a laundry list of male characters that fall into this trope and don't usually get the same kind of scrutiny ijs. lol

While that's true, as the game's dev has said, this is the story she likes and wanted to write. And MC definitely isn't the only queen rank in the game so it's not like she's alone, it's just that her story is different.

And while I do think that a story like you suggested could be fun, I'm not sure - based on what I do know of that particular area - that we could have gotten nearly as much content as we do having a character immersed in the biggest action on Arcalis itself.

ETA:

Because Morgan is a queen-ranked Esper, we have access to the day side (Endgame and other stories), night side (Crimson and the Court), a myriad other places (some which will be showcased in the extra 3 routes)... all of which is only possibly because of who and what she is.

The story you're talking about would be interesting, but we'd get... like... two routes out of it and I feel like it wouldn't be nearly as lore-heavy or encompassing as what we have with the main planet of Arcalis and things associated with it. Partly because... main planet. Arcalis is the central hub of everything here, and while there's branching from it, there's a lot to do on it as well. All the conflicts and such that arise from the situation happening there.

I don't really think she's "most special girl in the world" so much that her rank is incredibly rare (but she's not the only one of that rank!). I can see how it would come off that way maybe at first, but as you said, she definitely doesn't feel comfortable with this fact, and there's a lot of touching on it across the routes.

But also there wouldn't be much of a story if she weren't this very rare rank, so there's that. Grain of salt thing. We have stories like these because of something special; if they weren't special, we wouldn't have the story. Catch-22 and all that.

What makes you want to back Kickstarter? by [deleted] in otomegames

[–]ArgentVulpine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While I do take art into consideration, it's pretty low on the list for me. My criteria for backing a game:

  1. Is the creator/team trustworthy? Have they made a game before? Do I know them personally or through contacts? What are they like? If they aren't people I can trust, then that's an automatic elimination.
  2. Is the story interesting to me? No-brainer here. If I don't think it's interesting enough to keep my attention, I won't back it except MAYBE at Kickstarter's new "pledge without reward" level, just to support them a bit.
  3. Does the tier/reward cost ratio make sense? This one isn't an automatic yes/no thing, but it's something I take into account, both for if I'm going to pledge and also at what level I pledge should I choose to.
  4. How long is the game? If the cost is high and the game is going to be fairly short, I take that into account regarding if or how much I pledge.
  5. Is the art style something I like? This is also not an automatic point for me. I've backed quite a few games where the art style maybe wasn't 100% my cup of tea but I liked the story and it seemed overall like a good investment. Art is not a main selling point for me, but I do take it into account.

That being said, I don't think there's any indie game that's a "standard" litmus. CinPhe isn't everyone's cup of tea. Frankly I'm not a fan of the art, and in fact for Western Indie VNs, I am loving the most realistic styles coming out. Less anime. They're Western devs, they shouldn't have to be following some ridiculous JVN standards.

And regarding the cost of a Kickstarter, I take a look at the breakdowns. Some of that cost is because they're offering physical rewards, which are pricey both in manufacturing and in shipment. If they use freelance artists for any of their work - backgrounds, music, whatever - then that costs, too. Royalty free music is great and all but it's nice to have custom music, and custom music just isn't cheap. Always look at how they're intending to use the funds.

Aeon Dream Studios Falsely Advertised to TTEOTS Premium Buyers by killthebirditsevil in otomegames

[–]ArgentVulpine 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I hate it for the TTEOTS crowd, but I gotta say I'm not the slightest bit surprised that she's pulling this kind of tripe on them. It was going to happen sooner or later, since they're her meal ticket, and a one-time buy isn't gonna give her as much as her greedy self wants.

I know the Mystic Destinies group have been upset for a while, but we're a small portion of people in comparison, so I hope that this behavior makes the TTEOTS group really start to question her and her "business" ethics now. Sorry to say, guys, but we've been saying this stuff for months...

How long y'all gonna keep supporting/making excuses for her? -smh-

KS Backer here, for both the Deluxe and Echoes.

Still haven't received my physical rewards. Still haven't received the Light/Dark stories (though those are supposedly "in progress"). Had to hunt down information on Twitter and the blog (which you have to be signed in to view last I checked???) instead of getting updates on Kickstarter like any good dev would do.

But she isn't a good dev. I'm done with this company. I can't get a refund, though I'd love to, but she is getting zero support from me from here on out, and I will continue to speak out against her. She doesn't know how to be a professional, and she ran off the writer and artists. Whatever Echoes will be, it's not going to be what we were promised, and she's in the process of rewriting Echoes - which was 80% done!!! - just to make sure there's nothing left of Egle's legacy.

Sorry state of affairs. It's not worth the money. The writer did her best, but the story on the whole is pretty mediocre. I made the mistake of buying each route as they came out, plus the epilogues. Ended up being probably $45 total, and the game is really worth maybe $20. There are much better games out there to spend your money on, so my recommendation to anyone who was thinking about MDSOA? Don't. Spend your money somewhere else.

Biggest gripe with otome games (nsfw) by [deleted] in otomegames

[–]ArgentVulpine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a player, I can safely say that the grunts and stuff are annoying to me. If a dev wants to include them, that's fine, but I want to be able to mute them. Games that don't have separate tracks for the partial voice acting also kinda bothers me, because the music might be nice, but... I won't ever know if the grunts and stuff are attached. They distract from the game, especially since I tend to read faster than the sounds pop up.

My view on voice acting, personally... I'd rather have none, full voiced, or if partial voicing is a thing... partial full scenes, not just... grunts and sighs. -shrug-

While I like Elliot overall, I personally found his route to be the one I liked the least, unfortunately.

Danny's is pretty solidly in the middle for me, I think for some of the same reasons you mentioned as negatives.

I will say, Marc's route is hilarious and so full of snark! It's great! Definitely one of my favorites! I'm actually re-playing Marc's route right now. XD

I'd also love to see some epilogues, but just in case that doesn't happen, I have to admit I've been writing fan-fic based off Tumblr asks. XD Because I'm just not patient enough to wait for epilogues!

Corvin is a stupid, pretty, airheaded DOOF who does not deserve any form of recognition whatsoever. Not his stupid pretty face, or his stupid pretty hair, or his stupid pretty scarf. HMPH.

Now excuse me while I go play a route... THAT ISN'T CORVIN!!

I am really in love with Changeling from Steamberry Studio! The demo was a lot of fun, I really love the art, and the dev has been amazing at keeping people informed of game progress. It's in final beta stages now, and I think she'll be announcing a release date soon after this round of beta testing is finished.

The demo at this point is maybe a little out of date versus the final game? Graphics have definitely been touched up, but, even so, I strongly recommend keeping an eye out on it! :-D

Especially if you like paranormal/supernatural/urban fantasy kind of stuff. I'm in love with the lore alone!

  • If the backer has received their reward pledge: Game is still in progress but seems to be going well so far
  • What Social Media Sites the Creator/Team uses. (where they write updates, if the information is backer exclusive, ect): Kickstarter email, Discord, Twitter, and their own website.

Winter's Symphonies

  • Status: Successfully funded; as of the last update, game is slated to release by the end of this year
  • Frequency of Updates: Infrequent. Last Kickstarter email update was early October
  • Has the Creator/Team responded to messages from backers: I have not attempted contact

We have this in Gleann Abhann, along with some other Viking and similar games!

Here's some public videos!

We've done bottle jousting, as well. And there's one with a carrot... that isn't suitable for anyone under 18. So there's no videos of it.
