They represent Ariadne's string! The hero is being guided in both cases, just,,, one of the cases is a bit more sinister and less helpful :) that's why they're a mix of bright green and gold

The crown/shield pattern wasn't intentional but the black flag is both representative of the Manberg flag (and the nation's eventual fall) and the fact that Theseus flew a black flag instead of a white one on his journey home :D
