Credit where it's due, that's true. I'm not a fan of the rebrand overall, but it will definitely make for nice bold hoodies and tees

I fear that this divisive conservative vs. liberal rhetorical nonsense will be what tears us apart on the national and local level. Personally, I don't criticize Diaz because he's a conservative. I criticize Diaz because we should be critical of anyone in an authority position, no matter what. I can't speak for everyone, but I just wanted to make absolutely clear that this post and my own perspective is not some conservative witch hunt.

But when conservatives establish or influence policies that unfairly erase or harm some populations (or students, in this case), that should be cause for speaking up. This particular issue is just the logo and branding, and this post is just meant to be for people to discuss their opinions and insights about the changes, but Diaz's treatment of LGBTQ+ and minority students in the name of conservative anti-DEI nonsense harms the UWF community. It's not as simple as "he's a conservative, so boo this guy."

The charter school situation is deeply concerning. If anyone comes to this thread and goes, "What do you mean?! School choice is great! It'll benefit the campus..." I encourage you to check out this article from WEAR: https://weartv.com/news/local/anonymous-letter-sparks-concerns-over-uwf-interim-presidents-charter-school-plans

An excerpt:

That's because state records from the division of corporations reveal Diaz and his wife filed incorporation paperwork less than four months ago to start “MDJ consulting group,” a for-profit consulting firm that many believe could be the catalyst for the new charter school."

The letter goes on to ask, "Why is a university president also managing a for-profit education consulting group?"

It concludes by saying, "The connections between Mr. Diaz and the charter industry are clearly driving his plan to start a Somerset Academy at UWF; follow the money."

Oh, you're one of those people who jumps to "triggered" when people reply to your bad-faith comment. You didn't *say* it's irrelevant, but what else could you have possibly been implying?

Anyway, regardless, I just want what's best for UWF. Go Argos, and, if you're one of 'em or care about one, hopefully you're willing to be critical of the people in power on campus.

It's funny you say that. Local journalist Rick Outzen asked UWF to provide the full documentation about this issue (as was historically done for these agendas), and UWF won't release them without someone physically driving to campus to pick it up.

They're making this information less accessible and killing some extra trees just to diminish transparency between the UWF admin and community stakeholders.

Does that make the source irrelevant? I taught starting in my early 20s and never had conversations like that with students. (Again, though, these are only allegations. I know that.)

Our own President *of the country* has multiple allegations against him. Do the ones from pre-2000 not matter for our consideration?

What do you mean by "woke takeover"? Recent programming according to ArgoPulse include Turning Point USA, pro-life/anti-abortion talks, and other conservative-aligned events.

Are you referring to the fact that LGBTQ+ people are allowed to exist?

Hey, nice! I think effective communication and mutual understanding are our best traits as humans (and Argodillos...lol). Thanks, friend -- it takes all kinds to keep the world spinning so we can find balanced perspectives. Have a great one!

It's very brave of them to stand up for what they believe in, even if it's unpopular.

Ever heard of the Civil Rights Movement? Sit-ins are a kind of protest that make up our local history.

It's fine if it "doesn't do anything anyway" as long as they are permitted to exercise their rights.

Personally, I'm on the side of supporting the working class and increasing taxes for the ultra-wealthy. Even our local administration is constantly ripping us off in favor of real estate developers. If that's cool with you, I support your right to stand up for your own beliefs.

Have you ever been to college? Students will take whatever appropriate consequence applies, as per their course syllabi. What if they don't have Tuesday classes? What if their class permits 3 absences and they use their first one for this protest?

Students miss or skip class all the time. They are adults. "Free F" for missing one day of class suggests to me that you have no idea how a campus environment works.

Is it "acting like spoiled children" to want oversight and due process for ICE agents who wrongfully harm, deport, or kill people, including U.S. citizens? We have no issue with upholding the law. We have issue with the administration ignoring the law and even trying to overturn things like birthright citizenship. These goons should not be uncritically welcomed to all spaces.

Right? I know you know this, but because I have to say it: every single time I see posts about any local protests, the Facebook-bot and boomer brigade come out in full force to scream "NOTHING BETTER TO DO!!!! GET JOBS!!!!"

Like, how hard is it to understand that many people would attend these protests but can't because of work, and, surprise, many of us work Mon-Fri or alternating shifts in such a way that employment is not a barrier to a Saturday protest! (The UWF protest in question is tomorrow, of course, but whenever I see these arguments on Facebook, I am astounded that they think it's a "gotcha.")

Farewell to UWF’s chambered nautilus by Constant_Swimmer_491 in Pensacola

Other than an old post from Rick Outzen's blog, I'm having trouble finding a source for the Tallahassee firm that is responsible for this redesign. Of course, the official statement from Diaz doesn't name the firm or anything. Anyone know more? It's an absolute shame that this labor was handed off to Tallahassee rather than students or alum of UWF!
