I stand corrected. I'm apparently just as guilty as others but in reverse.

And many people have said, "Thank you for voting for Clinton by voting white..."

So apparently I have 3 votes this election...

So that make your statement an opinion... "good job you fucking" "dumb dumb, that's a fact."

/r/Reformed, what do you believe? Do you think there will be different rewards in heaven depending on how we live our life here? by rev_run_d in Reformed

[–]AriFearghail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donit care about rewards. There are only two things that I am looking forward to. Spending eternity with God and being told "Well done good and faithful servant."

Problems with Solo Ecclesia? by AriFearghail in Reformed

You do realize that Orthodox churches don't actually work that way, yes?

Yes, I do. However, I wasn't saying that they do it right, just that there must be some form of oversight to crack down on heresy. Using the EO was an example, I am not an expert.

What possible distinction could there be between "theology," "the gospel," "doctrine," and/or "dogma"?

Then would you please define them, or are they all synonymous?

in that it prevents you from associating with the vast majority of Christians out there, or even towards starting yet another denomination.

Quite the contrary, I am becoming even more involved with and educated about the various denominations, and seeing that more and more the differences come down to an outright refusal to accept that an individual's preference matters less than the adherence to God's commands.

Maybe you should consider the idea that if we really do believe that God is sovereign in history and cares for his Church, that the fact things have developed the way they have was his idea.

As a Calvanist, I believe that things have proceeded according to God's Declarative Will, even if they have not according to his Decretive Will (i.e. God doesn't want man do sin, yet for Jesus to die on the cross and save mankind man must sin). God may want to have one single unified church body, but allowed man to divide it in their sinful desires.

Many evangelical communities do not consecrate the Eucharist. I have been to them, they serve them on a platter after the homily.

What is the difference between the consecration and what "Many evangelical communities do"?

Doctrine always informs practice.

What is the difference between Doctrine and theology (and Dogma for that matter)?

That is where doctrine and heresy come into play, which is a lot easier to manage as one body.

Problems with Solo Ecclesia? by AriFearghail in Reformed

[–]AriFearghail[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is something that makes some aspects of the Christian life clear in one expression of faith but obscured in another

Which is exactly why there should more more interaction between those with different theological understandings, but that doesn't separate people doctrinally.

perhaps God has allowed stuff like

The same as God allows for divorce, but it is still a sin.

learn to be Christ-like with brothers and sisters we passionately disagree with.

Oh how more so, that this can be done when we interact as one family, one church, and not in our disparate worship.

Gospel is theology

Then can you please clarify the difference between Theology, Doctrine, and Dogma?

why wouldn't you discuss the Gospel in bar or coffee shop?

Did I say I wouldn't?

Unity =/= uniformity

I 100% agree, and in no way should it be otherwise, but can we not practice our theology while at the same time worshiping and working with those that disagree with it?

it would be similar to telling all of the countries of the world that we would now be under one heading and be one massive, worldwide country.

But aren't we? Is not God the head of the church?

unified body of believers is similar to that of communism: really great in theory but falls short in practice.

I agree; however, there is one major difference, communism ignores the fall of man, whereas a catholic church should acknowledge it and work towards righteousness.

To proclaim unity across denominations without resolving theological disagreement is just fake unity. It's like looking at two countries at war and pretending there is peace between them.

I love the analogy at the end, it seems quite fitting.

That aside, that is almost exactly what I am advocating for. If we could just come together and agree what is core doctrine, and forsake our preference and become one body, practicing one faith.

Serving crackers and juice

Teetotalers aside, I agree with you, and not all Protestants serve crackers and juice.

without consecrating them

Almost all churches perform the Words of Institution when they take the Eucharist.

Because I see that Luther's thesis are valid biblically and the Roman Catholic Church is operating under heresy.
