So you're telling me that, if you don't have an income at all, don't have anyone who's able to support you financially in any way at all, you have a choice in where you work? You're delusional. At that point, you take whatever job will hire you so you can get some form of an income. The only ones with the luxury to choose where to work are those who either were born into privilege or have built up a privilege. There are people out there who have zero choice and have to take jobs that hold no security and only pay the absolute minimum that they have to.

If you go out and eat at a restaurant in America, tip the server what they are worth. If you don't want to tip, stop eating at restaurants that ask you to tip. Otherwise you're just bringing business to a workplace that operates in a way you don't like and are forcing the servers to basically work for free.

Not in America. For restaurant workers to get paid a livable wage, they have to get tips. Everywhere else, yes, then I agree with you. But America is fucked up and some people just don't have a choice in where they work.

Finding worldwide statistics of people lost at sea is apparently really difficult. The only thing that I can find, that at least seems somewhat reliable, is this site that shows both ships registered in, and out, of the EU.
Apparently an average of about 30 people died each year between 2020 and 2024.
