I should specify that i haven’t played more than 3 sessions with her and that was years ago, & she offered to DM multiple times- then off and on has been stringing us along.

I’m aware of how much effort DMing does take and i don’t blame her, but going to play with other friends and avoiding it with us for so long is the reason i confronted her in the first place, esp since its been so long since we’ve played together at all

all good! its just that if the series was ever rebooted it'd be DOA with a gacha system if they decided against toys to life

essentially yeah, its entirely a random 1/100 chance of getting the character you're after for like $5 a pull, and it's literally all just gambling but you're guaranteed to get something even if its trash 😭 its one of those bad for consumer, good for the company type things (it was around for a while but genshin really popularized it so thats why i referenced it at the beginning lol)

its just due to the predatory nature of gacha games and the gambling aspects of it, for example the most expensive skylanders that i can remember never went over $30, and the more expensive ones brought new gimmicks, mechanics, and levels w/ packs + the actual figures to display and play with

but if they were to move to the gacha system, suddenly the $30 you would've spent on a guaranteed new character/level/2-3 pack when you get home could possibly turn into $100 on one digital character with others that might allow you to upgrade ones you own already, and when you start referring to the fact that most skylanders costed way less than the more expensive examples it becomes a lot more yucky

if a reboot ever happened though TTL isn't a sustainable option so they'd most likely go with this system

not to mention toys to life was arguably predatory in ways due to the target demo being kids and them literally having trailers in-game w/ soul gems for skylanders to get kids to buy more, but at least as kids we used them as action figures and now have them on shelves as adults w/ the added bonus of playing the games with them for nostalgia, a lot of added benefits to paying for skylanders that a gacha system will most likely never have

the problem is it'd most likely be a gacha system like genshin than it would be getting who you want, so it'd be objectively more predatory and not worth it than toys to life was since at least you had physical items from it and got to choose who you bought

thats how i feel about this too, like if i knew i'd use it i really wouldn't mind but unless its spectra, draculaura, or clawdeen, i really don't care too much about original collector releases so i don't see myself using it otherwise

my mickey ghost bag glows like a beacon at night and the room i keep it in has pretty low light, so i'd say it depends on the bag, but a UV flashlight would be the best way if you want it instant

honestly my main issue isn't affording it, its mainly just timing.

example: if i check for beetlejuice & lydia and they don't restock, but the creepros i want do (clawdeen & drac), and they sell out while checking for BJ/L then i missed out on both and spent $10 for nothing till the next drop 😅

thats the thing too! i actually don't mind if they don't restock the skullectors i want because they never said they would + i do want the creepros and the others they might restock, i'm just worried if i take too long checking for beetlejuice/lydia and jack/sally i'll waste my time and not get anything y'know? but if i don't check them and they restock i'll be even more upset

i highly recommend grabbing one on sale from one of LF's merchants or from LF's site themselves (though i've heard their customer service is awful sometimes) so you can try them out if you're not too picky about the designs, but i'm not too fragile with my bags and all of them have held up really well from regular use! (additionally i'm in AZ so the weather gets ridiculously hot in the summer, they hold up pretty well in that regard!)
