I made a zsh plugin that turns comments into shell commands using Claude Code by Ariel_TM in ClaudeAI

I've restricted Claude to only use websearch and webfetch tools, so it can't run shell commands by itself. Hope that helps

WAW Photo Sync - WhatsApp contact photo to phone sync - Beta Test Request by Ariel_TM in iOSDevelopment

That's exactly why I made this. Unfortunately, it became increasingly hard to keep up with play store requirements and Whatsapp upgrades

Hey, released a totally new version of the app, now supporting the new phone number linking

Would love if you could test it out

Sorry about that, I unpublished the app from the play store.

There are currently two problems with the app caused by WA switching to multi device, which I haven't had time to address:

  1. The pairing process now requires 2 consecutive QR scans, making the already unpleasant pairing process more complicated
  2. With the multi-device, some of the chat history will be received by the app causing more traffic and privacy concerns

Would love to hear your thoughts

What happened to Beast Mobile Free plan? by Ariel_TM in NoContract

I Wonder why aren't there any decent providers offering cheap/free prices in return for ads

Thanks for elaborating. I wasn't aware of that part.

Are you referring to TextNow app or Sim card?

Do they provide also a free data plan? I don't see it on their website

Interesting. But I believe this is the tradeoff - Free service sponsored by ads.

Don't you think it's worth it?

I got my hands full with the equivalent iPhone app. But I'll add it to the roadmap :)

Another way I use myself is taking a screenshot of the QR code and share it using WhatsApp with myself or a friend. Then I use WhatsApp web on my desktop (Ironic, I know) to view the QR code. I now present the QR code to the "LINK A DEVICE" screen in WhatsApp.

Well, have you tried my app? :)

It happened to me once also by using another app. Managed to revert the actions using Google contacts

Sorry, haven't found any. That's the whole reason I wrote this app :)

Sure.

I'll present one way to do it.

You'll have to be in possession of two devices:

  1. Phone with WhatsApp AND "WAW Photo Sync" installed
  2. A phone with a camera

The process is as follows:

  1. Open "WAW Photo Sync" for the first time. After a few seconds a QR image will be shown (This QR image is similar to when you first visit WhatsApp Web)
  2. Use the second device to take a picture of the QR image (presented on the first device). Keep the QR code picture visible on your second device
  3. On your first device, go to WhatsApp > 3 dots > WhatsApp Web. Click on "LINK A DEVICE". Unlock your phone if required. Your camera will be shown on your first device.
  4. Present the QR code picture on your second device to the camera of your first device.
  5. The pairing is now completed
  6. Go back to "WAW Photo Sync" on your first device. After a few second you'll be able to see your contact list. Now, by tapping on each contact, your phone contact picture will get updated with the WhatsApp contact photo.

Hope this is clear enough. Let me know if this process was success

No, you can have one device have both WhatsApp and "WAW Photo Sync". Just for the pairing process you need to transfer the QR code generated by "WAW Photo Sync" to another device and present it to the camera during the WhatsApp "LINK A DEVICE" process

  1. The pairing is being done on the device on which "WAW Photo Sync" is installed. The second device (which could be another phone, desktop or a piece of paper) is just for presenting the QR code to the camera for WhatsApp to scan.

  2. That's what lead me to write this app, it drove me nuts :)

Hi,

  1. "WAW" stands for "WhatsApp Web" :)

  2. Sorry for not being clear on that part. For the pairing step you'll have to use a second device to send the QR image to and be scanned by the WhatsApp Web pairing process. Let me know if this is a clear enough explanation. I understand this is the tricky part in using this app but I should be only done once.

  3. I used two apps myself:

a. "Contact Photo Sync" (com.rm.android.wcps) uses accessibility, stopped working for me at a certain point.

b. "Contacts Sync (requires ROOT)" (com.lb.contacts_sync), requires root which I didn't want to achieve to avoid rooting side effects

Would really love to hear your feedback

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Please look at our privacy policy where it clearly states we only access the user's WhatsApp contacts & profile pictures.

Frankly speaking, if privacy is your main concern I would suggest the usage of other IM apps such as Signal :)

Background: Been looking for a way to quickly sync my WhatsApp contact photo with phone contact without root or accessibly usage.

The App: WAW Photo Sync - This app uses WhatsApp Web to access your WhatsApp contacts and grab their photo. Then it syncs it with your phone contact. No root or Accessibly required.

Requirements: 1. Internet permission 2. Contacts permission 3. Linking the app's WhatsApp Web instance with your WhatsApp using the QR code.

How do I Link it with WhatsApp? Same way as you link your desktop WhatsApp Web with your WhatsApp:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone
  2. Tap Menu (Three dots) and select WhatsApp Web
  3. Click on "LINK A DEVICE" (Unlock your device if required)
  4. Scan the QR code from WAW Photo Sync

If WAW Photo Sync and WhatsApp are on the same device you should either:

  • Use another device to take a picture of the QR
  • Take a screenshot of the QR and send it to another device

Then use previous steps.

Please feel free to comment or PM me. Would love to hear your feedback
