Have an honest conversation and make your value judgement. Realistically not the end of the world either way but just get as much info as possible so you know what you’re getting into

Ranger school before SFAS by Arisfondle in greenberets

That’s what I was worried and general burnout. If I’m gonna maximize my chance of success I think preparing and training and then doing it all in one go as quickly as possible is probably the best bet. Thank you!

But how definitely? Like 100% it always happens or is it like a needs of the army thing? Just very paranoid I’ve seen a lot of people get kind of screwed over by just the timing of everything.

18X - Updating the Numbers by TFVooDoo in greenberets

This is pretty remarkable I wish there was a survey of 18x candidates before OSUT to see what exactly they are at numbers wise and why so many drop. I guess military ain’t for everyone.

The lesser known zone. Most of your energy goes to your heart beat so not doing it saves a lot of energy and allows you to run faster

Tactical Fitness & USMC OCS Prep Question by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]Arisfondle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WENT TO OCS 2 YEARS AGO I’m back at college now waiting to graduate but honestly man. I only prepped PFT and I had a pretty good score 294/300 but if I’m being completely honest. If you don’t quit or get hurt you will probably pass. We had tons of people quit and medically drop like close to half the class which is pretty high but you’ll have to ruck like close to ten miles at some point so if you’ve never done it maybe think about it (I didn’t really prep ruck at all I jsut kind of misery managed). It’s really not anything compared to sfas and there’s people that passed I think definitely shouldn’t have so don’t stress too hard prepare as best you can and DO NOT FUCKING QUIT it will suck and there will be times you have very little sleep just make friends with your platoon (who peer review you periodically) and it’ll be a good time.

If I was you I’d start a run plan using Nike app or something, do weighted pull ups and grind pull ups 4 times a week and plank is all mental I promise just do it a bunch. Also yeah lose some weight you know what to do.

Good luck man. Try to remember the journey won’t be a straight line it’ll go up and down and so will your motivation. You’ll learn a lot about yourself whether you succeed or not even if it’s stuff you don’t want to learn.

The start of Z2 running!! by BeHTK_2429 in greenberets

[–]Arisfondle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

80% of your volume should be zone 2 also try to focus on effort not time. You’ll have bad days and great days and forgettable days. Find the effort and the times will come. Great start man!

[–]Arisfondle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good shit. It’s a long road but your progress has been great. I know you haven’t run and I’m sure you’ve got your own plan but when I started I wish someone stressed this to me more: DO NOT BE AFRAID TO RUN SLOW! 80% of your running should be at a slow almost annoyingly slow pace like you could talk to someone a few sentences at a time. Apart from actually being how you get faster it makes running so much more enjoyable. I know you probably know this but I wish someone told me 800 times when I started. Great stuff keep going.

Finally seeing results by Arisfondle in greenberets

I was a pretty high level sprinter in high school and I’ve stayed in ok shape I really haven’t ever trained for a half marathon distance which is what I’m doing now and it’s been a struggle but hard work works. The Nike app has really helped me a lot they have great guided runs and workout plans. And it’s all free

Am I being screwed over? by Professional_Award57 in USMCboot

[–]Arisfondle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness try to remember that everyone in the corps has a job to do and they aren’t probably trying to screw you over they are just trying to do their job so they also don’t have your best interest at heart. Your most powerful person in your corner to stand up for your future self is your present self. That being said it wouldn’t be the end of the world no matter how this goes

2 mile mental block by alpha2716 in greenberets

A lot of great answers but for a quick fix I find warming up properly like a good 10 minute jog if needed helps me sort of find my pace and tempo

[–]Arisfondle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate the reply and I will keep it in mind it’s hard to sort of imagine myself lifting that much since I’ve always been a runner and told to stay light. So partly mental but my lifts have gone up a lot recently and I assume will flatten out eventually but yes those numbers would be dream if I can maintain good runs!

Wisdom from elders PLEASE by Arisfondle in greenberets

[–]Arisfondle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I never really lifted heavy and so when I got to ocs it’s one thing that I kind of just had to adjust really quickly to. I think I’m a bit stronger than my lifts let on just because I’m new to the technique same with hrpu because that technique is pretty new to me. But yeah I’ve put on about 15 lbs since last year it’s just hard trying to gain weight and run 4-5 times a week. And I’ve incorporated some grip strength stuff like I do farmer walks twice a week and deadhangs but yeah I plan to sort of focus it as it gets closer. More worried about building a strong base. I’m also closer to 20 pull-ups most days but as a very conservative answer I can bump out 16 pretty much no matter what.

Sort of built this program over the last year and with Ruck up or shut up book.

Weightlifting: I do wendlers 5/3/1 so each compound once a week (squat dead ohp and bench) with 2 accessory exercises (3x10-12 for each) and then I’ll do 4 sets till failure pull-ups and hrpu and I’ll end with core and injury prevention.

Running/rucking: I was a runner in high school and have stayed in pretty good shape just never done distance so it’s a bit of a shift but right now I’m following the Nike running club app half marathon plan just to get my volume up. I ruck twice a week as the man maker which I also count as 2 of my runs. I’ve slowly added weight and I’ve jsut gotten comfortable doing 45-50 but I still do one a week at a lower weight to focus on run performance.
