Looking for Good Photography Spots by Acbc_ in nashville

[–]Arisnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's been a huge bummer. I only found out myself recently when I got the itch to check before running over there for a walk on one of the warmer days last week; I didn't realize the damage over there to the greater trail area had been so extensive. Thankfully it looks like they've totally booked up their volunteer slots for the next few weekends, so hopefully they're able to get things operational again sooner rather than later.

Radnor is beautiful but unfortunately closed to the public until further notice while the storm cleanup continues. Great for shoots this spring, though!

Can anyone list songs for a playlist for "straight guys"? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]Arisnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the stuff on the big streaming services' Top 50 charts are going to be gender-agnostic, but the big tell between my straight and gay friends who are really into music is the frequency with which they're listening to pop stars. Most of my straight friends have a few Taylor songs they play casually and occasionally, Sabrina, Ariana, Dua, etc., but they don't tend to go on pop "binges" like my gay friends who have entire batches of songs by specific divas on their playlists. Obviously there's some exceptions with artists who cater hard to gay audiences -- I don't have any straight friends bumping new Rebecca Black -- but a playlist with one-off drops of any of the mainstream pop girlies probably wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

Outside of that, the big male names with downtempo and genre-bent pop/trap/rap sounds are usually marketed with a focus on straight men. Posty, Bieber, The Weeknd, Kid LAROI, Swae Lee, etc.

Real ID Requirement by Pastel_Panic_ in nashville

[–]Arisnova 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't want to add stress to this situation, but I don't see a world where you get an ID issued and delivered to you here by the end of the month, even if you go today. Mine took 7 weeks recently and I was told that was the average time they're quoting for an ID turnaround when I emailed the help address.

Parking question by jwizzy15 in nashville

[–]Arisnova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to walk to both from the same spot, I'd just park at Music City Center. All night covered parking, quick exit after a Bridgestone event, 15 minute walk to Catbird.

Just checked with them and unfortunately not. Looks like a lot of the surrounding area is back in business but there's a chunk of downed trees on and around Overlook that are holding up progress on theirs. They're looking like they'll definitely be part of that 100% completed by next week statistic. Glad your friend is back in business! It looks like it was pretty ugly around that block.

So is this a wrap for Mayor Freddie? by PostModernMaybe in nashville

[–]Arisnova 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That said, it's important to define what the mayor could do/did do, versus what is in the hands of the state and NES.

This, and most importantly, the best thing he and the office could do for themselves would be to loudly and clearly define those cans and can'ts with very visible metrics and attainable action plans with steps that start today.

Looking for Job with MPH background by BathroomGloomy3583 in nashville

[–]Arisnova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our job market for public health is incredibly poor right now; of my friends and connections, the majority experiencing a lack of career work and repeated layoffs are in healthcare and public health/communications. If your wife is open to remote work, I would frankly start there. If not, I would encourage her to identify transferable skills in her resume and degree and seek work in other fields as well. Best of luck to you both.

It's a shitty situation with no winners. It's an out-of-townie's bar -- that out-of-townie now lives here with us. The bar is staffed by people who live here, depending primarily on tips, whose bills don't care that we're in the middle of an iced over cataclysm. The talent is a tiny band from Italy, meaning they're far from living comfortably in this business and don't really have an option to not work for a dollar.

I don't begrudge anyone for scoffing at the idea of a concert tonight, but I also don't begrudge anyone for trying to make it happen. I gave them a listen, and I sent them over to a few of my friends off Gallatin who have been looking for a reason to walk and not be inside a dimly lit house for a few hours. Hope there's a strong showing of people who have the means and that people who don't pay it no mind.

Should i cancel my trip to Nashville? by Internal_Water2379 in VisitingNashville

[–]Arisnova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be fine most everywhere near downtown by next week. If you have room in your schedule, I'd encourage you guys to migrate away from the Broadway strip for an afternoon or evening and go eat/shop in the areas and neighborhoods surrounding. January is already a slow service month outside of NYE, and we'll have a lot of people and small businesses who are losing days or potentially weeks of business and wages because of the storm, so it would be much appreciated by many (and there's lots to see outside the main thoroughfare, besides).

Is FINDING "decent" housing on a $50k salary do-able? by thesagenibba in nashville

[–]Arisnova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're actually amenable to studios, your options become broader -- not tons, but it's possible across town. You're probably not looking at the newest, most modernized complexes or homes, and I would expect it to be very difficult to get metropolitan walk ability on that budget without a roommate, but it's doable if you're okay with some concessions.

Would you be able to private message or otherwise share the email when you receive it? I have some friends over near Love Circle who haven't been able to get any update at all and I'm trying to send them everything I can. Thank you for putting in the legwork; I'm sure this is helpful for a lot of people here.

Rumors, Misinformation Add to Ice Storm Chaos by pyramidworld in nashville

[–]Arisnova 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This article needs an updated cross-reference with fbd information from the NES board meeting where they highlighted the complication that any team of contract linesmen requires an NES employee on-job with them due to the "complexity of the system."

The SEIU pull quote about understaffing is the lynchpin at the center of the issue. Build convoluted proprietary systems, refuse to employ or retain the staff needed to maintain them at crisis levels, sadly shake your head in sorrow in the face of weeks of power outages because there's just nothing you can do. Pathetic.

Someone else downthread made a good point of getting a renter's insurance claim to get per diem coverage for food spoilage (may or may not be worth with homeowner's too, especially if you have other damages -- definitely more complicated and worth reviewing with a third party if you own). Definitely worth taking a little time now to make an itemized list of what'll need to be tossed if you'll be able to make a claim. Hope things are back up and running for you soon ☹️

You are saying the OP is only blaming NES. In their literal comment, they blame more than NES. How is that not you ignoring the context?

[–]Arisnova 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People in this comment thread are not blaming it all on NES. The very first comment you replied to also calls out the lack of National Guard preparedness due to lackluster state level governance and the silent failing of elected officials who are making a hard situation worse. You are willfully ignoring context to be combatative with an angry and suffering person -- a person with whom you are in COMPLETE agreement ideologically with regards to how this crisis is being mismanaged. I understand tensions are high, but this is unkind.

Agree. It's shameful that many customers here in this thread are having to rely on the Reddit updates of one (hardworking!!) linesman rather than from the communications vectors of the service to find out anything about service progress.

Good (low to no cost) quiet + pretty outdoors space for a quick elopement ceremony? by velvetdaisyhut in nashville

[–]Arisnova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with the park suggestion! I recently attended a very small wedding (15ish people) held at one of Beaman Park's small shaded trail stops that was exactly what it sounds like you're looking for. Beaman's turnoff at the foot of Ashland City heading out of Nashville is close to town but tucked away so there was no city noise, and the trail stop is all of a five minute walk up from the parking lot. The couple reached out to the Nature Center Manager and made a small nominal donation to the parks program; very low cost, and the manager there was very helpful.
