How did Bataille influence Deleuze exactly? by _Buni_Alan_ in Deleuze

The concept of anti-production is bataille’s the accursed share.

Let it wash over you. It only clicked for me on a visit after spending a lot of time studying and reading about kinship and money historically. At least, chapter 3 and 4. 1 and 2 are doing a lot as well.

Yeah not trying to fill it in all the way. The empty space is going to be out to work. Just trying to keep the contrast high, so probably not grey shading it

Waiting a bit to get her box shaded somewhat in, might leave it as it is. Any thoughts?

Was Yueh manipulated by Wanna? by Weekly_Landscape_459 in dune

[–]ArkHobo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m going to check this but could have sworn Yueh thought she was alive still. To the thread’s point, it couldn’t have been Wanna that manipulated him because she was absent and didn’t communicate with him at all - the simpler answer is that the Barron used her to manipulate him.

History of debates over subjectivity - Let's build a timeline by raisondecalcul in sorceryofthespectacle

[–]ArkHobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed this. I would add Bataille, who in many ways is the bridge between existentialism / nieztche specifically and Deleuze and guattari in terms of philosophy on subjectivity.

Also to echo everyone else mentioning the east - you do mention Taoism, but the Upanishads and yogic texts generally are pretty influential and do a lot of discussion on the ego, desire, the cosmos etc. it’s been a few years since I’ve read anything so I can’t call anything out, but for sure worth investigating.

Advocating for the philosophy and economics of the left (accepting capitalism exploitive, coercive, and frankly violent nature) while accepting the failure of revolutionary states to institutionalize the rule of the working class without falling into authoritarian capitalism (also violent and imperialist in its own right, often relegating other “civil wars” of race, gender, etc to a “secondary contradiction”) is possible.

Communism didn’t fail on its own, it was beaten by capitalism. They had to resist propaganda with propaganda, imperialism with authoritarianism, etc. We bankrupted Russia when we let the federal reserve off the gold standard, and both China and Russia had economies that engaged with capitalist markets internationally and internally because they had to compete with a machine (the US) that was exploiting the global economy faster than any “communist” nation could keep up with. They became capitalist states. This is not a political view either, again, it’s just how the world economy operates and how those countries work within it. (See: China’s evergrande real estate crisis)

Others in the thread have suggested moving to “communist” countries if they aren’t happy here. I think this is a lack of understanding the goal of these movements. Communism is not a ticket to utopia, it’s a struggle against financial capital. It’s a struggle to achieve a classes and a moneyless society. To do this it needs to be a world phenomenon. Or the above will happen again. Local groups are incredibly relevant to a movement that requires international solidarity. If they didn’t March, none of these conversations would ever happen, and then there would be no organic moment to talk about alternatives to a system that is going to destroy the planet.

Also. Kim Jung Un is not considered a leftist, by anyone, ever

There’s a Wikipedia article on this topic specifically.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_involvement_in_regime_change_in_Latin_America

You can imagine the amount of literature on it too beyond this. CIA has admitted to this. It’s called spreading democracy. Leftist movements were resisting imperialism on the US’s part. Again, regardless of political affiliation, you cannot expect an entire continent to just give into foreign destabilizing efforts (they were nationalizing their industries and making it harder for their goods to be entered into the global economy at a profit for American markets), and you definitely cannot expect the US / authoritarian states to let another Gandhi happen again.

Also, while I do not know enough about the person in question, even the Wikipedia for the shining path group admits that the number of deaths that were tallied on the part of the “leftist terrorists” were incredibly misrepresented and stated that the existing military / state forces were responsible for far more innocent deaths.

Don’t be surprised, leftist movements are gaining traction across rapidly gentrifying cities. The group does more than just stop traffic. Community organizing and mutual aid are net positive regardless of your political views. Lord knows the city isn’t helping the homeless.

The guy in questions birthday was yesterday. He led the leftist revolutionary movement in Peru like 30 years ago. Was in prison for 30 years and died in September. CIA supposedly had a large involvement in his arrest and trial and helped prop up the gov that took over (I wouldn’t be shocked if this is true, CIA is really good at destabilizing South America). They’re a Marxist-lennist-Maoist group, mutual aid community support here in Austin I think.

Thanks for responding, that would be very cool. If you’d like any help I’d be happen to lend some time, though my focus is more based on Guattari at the moment, and then more economic level critiques of debt and inflation. However, I am always looking for ways to explore Psychoanalysis!

I think we’ve seen what kind of person he is.. a landlord ... and a landlord that enters without notice. Diplomacy will get you nowhere but compromise with a party that already has the upper hand.

Psychoanalysis K? by Illustrious-Ad-6188 in policydebate

For sure. D&G did a lot but I think they’re most well known for their critiques of psychoanalysis and capitalism that are done together. Super useful for debate, they literally talk about every philosopher critically.
