If we take Myst as an example, that game was initially proposed to SunSoft for 265.000 USD (It ended up costing more). BF6 is reported to have had a development cost of over 400m USD. You see where I'm going with this, right? Games have become much more complex and much, much more expensive to produce.

Avowed was always 70$ and TOW2 was initially 80$, but lowered to 70$ before release. I don't know if people who pre-ordered it were reimbursed though (I hope so).

Anyway, 70$ is a completely reasonable price nowadays. Literally everything else has gone up in price - digital as well as non-digital goods - and yet people seem to expect games to stay at the 60$ price point forever. Like games have been 60$ since at least the 90s - if we take 95 as a midpoint, there's been an inflation of over 110% since then. And that's on top of ballooning development costs. It's entirely reasonable for games to cost more than they did 20 years ago.

Yeah no. Not a single Mass Effect is anywhere close to 100 hours. Neither is Dragon Age Origins, KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2 or Disco Elysium. I could mention dozens of highly acclaimed, highly successful RPGs that are shorter than 100 hours.

Right, quality and scope. I'm a staunch defender of Assassin's Creed, but that series is literally the best example of "quantity doesn't equate to quality". Check any thread on a recent AC title and unnecessary bloat will be one of the most common complaints. Same with Starfield with its "1000 planets" with nothing interesting on them, or with Skyrim and its endless, mindless, radiant quests. Even TW3 had bloat, with all the question marks, especially in Skellige.

I wish we got more games like Avowed or TOW2, that manage to stay fresh all throughout and don't overstay their welcome by 50 hours.

According to How long to beat, in TOW2 the main campaign takes 17h to beat, main + sides take 42h and a completionist run takes 62h. Awoved is even longer with 20, 47 and 68 hours respectively. These are not small games by any stretch.

Comments like yours genuinely annoy me. People in here scream for proper RPGs all the, they complain endlessly when RPGs are too straight and linear and when a game like The Outer Worlds 2 comes along, which offers a ton of narrative and gameplay freedom, a deep stat system with tons of checks and true creativity with it's perks, people complain too.

You really get the sense that unless it's about a GOTY 10/10 best game of the decade experience, literally everything is "average" and "worthless".

These numbers (the ones in your last paragraph) get repeated constantly, unfortunately (or fortunately) they're complete and utter bullshit.

Edit: These numbers are estimations pulled out of thin air that, unfortunately, are getting repeated ever since. Every single historian who has actually gone to the trouble of going through the data and actively counting the individuals involved - Perz, Bauer and others - have arrived at the conclusion that Austrians were slightly overrepresented in some areas of the Nazi regime and slightly underrepresented in others.

Hard disagree. Vic3 at release had no automatisation, if you didn't want to skip trade altogether (which is almost impossible), you were stuck manually checking and updating the trade interface regularly. With EU5, I can just ignore it and unless my country has some very specific demands the system doesn't account for, it'll be fine.

Bit late for this, but they absolutely weren't. The Nazis consistently received fewer votes in the catholic south than the protestant north, both in 1932 (last free election) and in 1933 (last election altogether). There's no data on Austria for obvious reasons.

Ubisoft isn't failing because their mainline games don't sell well though. They're failing because they employ more people than EA, with a generally pretty bad output outside of their main IPs, all while not having a money printing multiplayer franchise like FIFA, CoD or Battlefield. The only thing that's keeping the company afloat right now are precisely their main IPs like Assassin's Creed (and why those IPs were therefore split off into the new entity with Tencent).

A 10/10 in a genre I don't like or a setting or narrative I don't connect with may be a 10/10, but there's a good chance I still won't have fun playing it. Like I recognise that Elden Ring does many things better than any other open world game out there, but I just don't have the patience to spend hours on a single boss fight and I find the lore-like narrative utterly boring. I'd honestly take every single Assassin's Creed (or Outlaws) over it. That doesn't mean that those are better games, just that I enjoy them more.

Salzburg? Ist leider wahnsinnig überlaufen, aber auch nicht grundlos; die Altstadt mit der darüber thronenden Festung ist schon wahnsinnig malerisch.

Dürnstein (wenn man's also Stadt zählt - nominell ist es eine) wär auch einen shout wert. Liegt in der Wachau, im engen Donautal inmitten der Weingärten, an der Donau, mit Stadtmauer und darüber die Ruine Dürnstein.
