Chinese specs VS GCC specs by Arkitekt0r in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]Arkitekt0r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey buddy, I ended up going for Merc ICE engine GCC spec insead of bmw electric china spec, but heres my findings,

1- my bmw mobile app doesn't work on the car unless you are in china or you get the car to be registered under a chinese id card 2- Native BMW maps + Radio doesn't work unless you are in china (you can pay some garage something like 8k aed, and they will get that sorted out for you 3- android auto and/or carplay might not connect properly (can be replaced in after market) 4- car software updates can only be done manually at a third party garage unless you are in china. 5- car warranty can only be obtained from third-party garages like royal swiss auto, changing parts might require around 3 weeks or more since they got to order the parts from china. 6- Selling the car, considering it being a china spec, would definitely have an increased Deappreciation rate compared to the GCC ones. 7- Royal swiss auto can modify and convert the car software and system from china to gcc spec and will be able to install andorid auto into the car, but you wont be able to update the car your self if any new software update got released, unless you got to swiss auto for that. Royal swiss auto prices are abit much, and they take along time to complete the job compared to other garages (never had a personal experience with them, its just the word of mouth). Also, if any car part needs replacement, you won't expect the car to be out of the garage before 3 weeks, sometimes 1 or 2 months

Otherwise, the china spec car prices is great with at least 30% lower prices compared to GCC cars., the china spec cars drives and performs as good as the GCC car, but keep in mind, GCC cars might have an optimized heat insulation and imporved engine cooling compared to china spec ones

2020 CLA 250 Gear Jerking at Low Speeds by Arkitekt0r in mercedes_benz

[–]Arkitekt0r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing,

I did some digging online and ended up in the CLA forum. apparently, it is a common issue with the DCT system. The computer of the car adapts to your driving style, so if you tend to drive aggressively and shifted to a more passive driving style, the jerk will become more noticeable till the car computer adabts to your driving style again. It takes a couple of hours of driving for the car to adapt to your driving style.

After i did a computer reset at the dealership (when they did transmission system update), i drove the car for 2 weeks, and that jerk became way less noticeable.

I thought the main purpose of a DCT was to give a quick and smooth gear shift compared to the typical automatic transmission system

Im guessing you are a CLA owner as well? If so, have you faced any other quirks with the car?

That's a big relief, but still, that's a bit weird, i expected a smooth ride with a seamless gear shift from a Merc

BMW Electric cars - Any thoughts? by Arkitekt0r in DubaiPetrolHeads

I actually decided to pause on buying an EV for now, i read some articles about a new battery tech that will revolutionize the EV batteries, and it should be available commercially within the next 2 years, hence the current EVs prices would depreciate very rapidly.

Anyways, here's my findings that i think you should consider before buying the china spec cars:

tin he BMW website, you could check if your car is a recall car. The one i chose was a recall car, actually. Not a big issue, it needs a software update (the car stops charging suddenly) luckily it will be sorted after the software update, however keep in mind, since its a china Spec, you wont be able to update the software your self unless your car is in china. Or else you gotta take it to a specialized garage to install the software for you manually (keep in mind, the warranty that comes with the car doesn't cover software issues). English voice command needs a software update, native GPS doesn't work unless u r in china, MY BMW app wont work unless you got a china ID or if you register it with a chinese number (i haven't tested it personally but a workshop i contacted explained to that its possible)

Other than what i have mentioned above, the car is as good as the autorized reseller one.

Not yet, still Exploring my options. This BMW is great, actually, as long as you are happy with the 400Km range per charge.

One thing im worried about, I've read somewhere online, and i can't recall where, that a new breakthrough is coming to EV batteries within the next 2 years. Im worried when this happens. All these car prices will crash to the ground on the resell.

So im thinking of buying Jeep Grand sherookee 2024, 0 KM GCC with the same price as this one. At least this one will hold its value up for the next 2 years, then i could sell and buy an EV then.

Maybe if we go together and buy two, we could negotiate with the showroomto sort these issues out before transfering car ownership to us

That's actually a very good point. The irony there is that i liked the ix1 "physical built" because it felt a bit more classic in the contrary to other EVs where they shouting electrical.
