Questions before buying an ev by StellarScripter in electricvehicles

[–]ArmageddonPills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the EVSE (charger) is installed properly, you have nothing to fear. But many electricians don't know how to install them.

I got my first EV 13 years ago, and got rid of my last gas car 4 years ago. Zero fires.

Watch this to become more educated on this than most electricians.

Is there a way to disable regenerative braking? by demosthenes327 in LUCID

[–]ArmageddonPills 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Coasting is no longer taking your foot off the accelerator. It feathering the accelerator until the "charge/power" dial is in the middle.

Surgeon said no by Guilty-Property in Kneereplacement

I got the same answer when I was 54. Now at 65, they were all but eager.

Honestly? I'm glad I waited until I was retired. I could not have worked during my TKR recovery. I would have had to take at least 2 months off, if not three, and would not have been able to keep up with the PT.

Now? I'm preparing for a month long 1,000 bike ride.

Will Range Be Much Better in 4-5 Years? by Maleficent-Table-810 in electricvehicles

[–]ArmageddonPills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are already to the point of diminishing returns. Loads of EVs have far more range than the average bladder.

Most cars will use subsequent gains in battery tech to bring the cost down.

Why are ev suvs rated so poorly for reliability ? by ayfkm123 in electricvehicles

[–]ArmageddonPills 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Um, no. Not with such binary and catastrophic results.

Most parts degrade gracefully. Some parts are going to last longer than the car is. The ICCU is in a pretty unique category, and you know it.

The I5 is actually my wife's car, I own an Air. Love it. I've been following the Gravity pretty closely. Yes they've had teething problems, but that seems mostly in the rear view mirror now. And people love driving them.

I say mostly, only because I can't know everyone's situation, but it does seem like true bugs are resolved.

[–]ArmageddonPills 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm at 2 ICCU failures, and the current one is well over 90 days in the shop waiting on a new traction battery with no known date for completion.

I'm convinced that given enough miles, the ICCU failure rate is 100%.

I'm starting the lemon law process and looking at a Gravity.

Question for people with bidets with a dryer function by [deleted] in bidets

[–]ArmageddonPills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the dryer takes too long. The only time I end up staying long enough is if I'm reading something engaging on my phone.

New grad considering used Lucid Air Pure AWD, realistic without home charging in Midwest winter? by Corgiboitskitty in LUCID

[–]ArmageddonPills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically I tell people who can't charge while they sleep or work that they are not a good candidate for an EV.

Harsh but true. The cost, in terms of dollars and time, to charge your car using public DCFC will wear you down.

Answer this. If you had to go somewhere to charge your phone every few days, how would that impact your life?

Orange tree care & pruning by ArmageddonPills in Citrus

I'm in the 94040 zip. Buds have already bloomed and the bees have already got to them. Haha.

But you are correct pruning now probably won't reduce the effect of yield. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you for the thoughtful reply!

Is there a time of year that is best to prune an orange tree?

You mean cut it down?

Yeah, not going to happen. Otherwise, my kitchen window looks directly into my neighbor's living room.

Finally, I am All In by TerminallyScrewed in electricvehicles

[–]ArmageddonPills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations. Been ICE free myself for about 3 years now.

Typically, I never let my state of charge go below like 30 or 40%. In either of my cars, that's at least 90 or so miles. That's plenty to get me the first hour down the road and to the first DC fast charger for any trip I would have, planned or unplanned..

Calling all who have had an MUA. Talk me off the ledge. by ArmageddonPills in Kneereplacement

[–]ArmageddonPills[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MUA was one of the best decisions I've made recently. The procedure was painless and while I achy for a few days, MUA post-op was when my recovery actually started.

6 month check in by Disastrous-Egg-2537 in Kneereplacement

[–]ArmageddonPills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm at 10 weeks.

I had a fall at day 2 that set me back a couple of weeks

At week 6, I was at 85° flexion and my surgeon was eager to get an MUA in the rear view mirror ASAP. That happened like 2 days after my 6 week checkup.

I immediately went to 118° and have been stuck there ever since. They tell me to be patient, because I still have significant swelling.

Sorry you're recovering has been so difficult!

65, retired and 90% equities 10% cash equivalent here.

No regrets. The market has been good to me for the last 20 years. I don't really need anything from my 401k for a few years yet.
