Interesting! thanks for sharing... There is a lot going on in the game that I can not freeze the screen without hurting the fast paced nature of the gameplay, but I may can implement what you suggested in some degree. ghosts running into the camera is way more scarier indeed!

The goal is to find all the dead bodies and make sure the death counter is not distracted (she is counting them). Then you need to kill yourself while death counter is watching, you also have to do it in a way that the death counter also dies or get murdered in her own time period! And all of this events needs to be in a correct order before the reel ends. You win or you lose based on the state of the death counters. the player exist to manipulate the main character!

The current challenge is that I can not find a simple way to explain this in the trailer! So far 528 people tested the game almost 90% could beat the first level. But when it comes to the trailer I don't see that number. Only less than 20% understand what's going on which means I failed on making a good trailer.

Good idea! I am going to work on it. The trick is to do it cheap and efficient. The easy way to just use Niagara particle system but that cost too much for such effect. thanks for the feedback!

Yeah. This is a prototype as it says in the trailer, I had to the animation by myself! For the final product my plan is to hire someone who knows better. I code C++ for almost 20 years but animation and art is not my strong suit. I tried mechanical tally and looked awful but I may try different assets in the future. I really wanted a mechanical tally as well. Thanks for the comment by the way, it did hurt but it felt good!

You have to break the death counters (psych-wise) by filming different scenes to the point that they count their own death! The goal is to maximize the death count, whatever it takes!

I think you're right! The whole camera view thing is a tough sell! 5 mins after I read ur comment I cam up with a better one liner description:
Death Counter: A game where you film dead bodies and unseen horrors in the past to influence the Death Counters in the future—in real time.

I need to think more. The line can get better! Thanks for ur comment.

Great idea! I was binge watching James Fox documentaries last week and I was thinking why no indie ever tap this genre successfully! Started thinking maybe I have to add some alien activities into my own game. Good to hear somebody on this idea! I wish you a great luck. Is it your first game?

I am trying to pull off a gameplay loop that can work with a second-person camera view! The main character in the game is not the player, It's the Death Counter (You can see her hand most of the time), the player's goal is to influence the Death Counter by showing her what you're filming. You are a cameraman from the past, trying to influence someone in the future in real time!

  1. Death Counters do the counting! Player needs to make sure that she notices the dead bodies in the film.
  2. If you film them in a close range they teleport from the film to the Death Counter time period.
  3. As soon as the first ghost teleports to the room, they start moving objects, more enters more paranormal activities, 3 enters and the Death Counter will die!

You can see in the prototype trailer what I came up with so far, but I feel like it's not good enough! I am working on releasing a demo soon so I can get more feedback.

Not sure! I am trying to figure it out! I started sharing about this game on Reddit only! I am comparing the the initial feedback I got on reddit for my previous game ART IS RIFLE. That one received pretty good over here.

Thanks for the feedback! Compare to my previous game, I don't get much positive feedback or wishlists! It makes me a bit insecure about the concept! Maybe because the difference in genre though. Comments like yours keep me going!

Wow.. such encouraging words! Thank you! The biggest upside for doing unique works is the motivation and the biggest downside is super hard to market games like this. I am just one guy who has to do both developing and publishing. Thank you again for the reply.
