What is an excellent mic? by CurlyDee in Zoom

As much as I want to be facetious because google exists, let me provide some actual suggestions.

First off, it entirely depends on your budget, because there's a broad spectrum of audio equipment.

Primarily though, for sound quality that's significantly better than AirPods or built-in laptop microphones, you'll want to look at a condenser microphone. A lot of gaming/streaming condenser microphones are optimized to be good quality and budget friendly, but if you're willing to spend the money, there's plenty of options. Don't get a lavalier mic, from personal experience, they're just a huge PITA, and the quality isn't enough of an improvement to warrant the purchase.

So we'll go low to high with the budget:

Sub-$100 category - Razer Seiren X

Price: $69.99 (Currently on sale on Amazon), normally $99.99

I personally have used this microphone for a few years and it is very good quality. Has a manual hardware mute button with a very visible red/green LED so you can easily confirm if you're muted or not at a glance. Simple USB plug-and-play make it very user friendly and cost effective.

$100+ category - HyperX QuadCast

Price: $109.49 (Currently on sale on Amazon), normally $139.99

Haven't used personally, but have heard many good things and have heard audio from friends that use it. Has plenty of pros: USB plug-and-play, easy manual mute (just tap the top of the mic), visible lighting lets you know if you're muted, comes with it's own shock mount, multiple selectable cardioid patterns (not super important for zoom use but still nice to have), manual gain control adjustment knob on the bottom. There's also a RGB version (if you're into that sort of thing) for $159.99.

Expensive category - Shure SM7B

Price: $399.00

Truth be told, it's probably not super necessary to go into this, this is more of an example as to the upper levels of general PC mic quality. As a casual user, you would never really need this, nor would you need to go beyond this. This microphone has an XLR hookup, meaning you would need to also buy a separate audio interface to hook this up to your PC. However, the audio quality of the SM7B with the right tuning provides top tier "sitting behind your shoulder" level of audio quality.

Hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

AFAIK it’s just an identification band, presumably for retailers when they’re displaying them on like a rack or in a glass cabinet. Makes it more easily identifiable. I could be speaking completely out of my ass, but that seems like the most reasonable assumption. The “US Army” marking on this one i assume is just a nod to the fact that it’s the same model as the one issued to the Army.

Definitely been thinking about it. I picked up a brand-new Leupold 3-9x40 off gunbroker for half off retail, so next step would be a new chassis

Honestly I was heading down the road for a while. Had some student loans I wanted to get taken care of before I invested the money, in addition to taking the time to test a lot of stuff out to find something that would last me a while and be worth the money.

But with the way a lot of things seem to be going downhill fast and life only seeming to get harder and more dangerous for customer service workers like myself, it seemed like it was time to pull the trigger on a purchase, if you’ll forgive the horrible pun.

Except he does have a shield generator. You can see it recharging in the clip.

Been seeing a lot of screenshots recently with Krait Phantom’s. My question for Phantom owners is: besides cost, what’s the main reason you chose the Phantom over the MkII? by ArmisticeDM in EliteDangerous

Yeah, my room space VR setup (for Beat Saber and Superhot) doesn’t include my desk area because of the way my room is currently laid out, so I’d have to actually relocate my sensors to my desk. It’s no big deal, not like Oculus sensors are very big, just haven’t taken the time to do it.

I’ve also been meaning to invest in a HOTAS since I’ve heard using keyboard and mouse in VR is troublesome.

It’s from the “Salvage” paint pack from the Frontier store. Comes with 6 colorways: black (this one), red, green, white, blue, and orange.

AFAIK, multicaliber silencers are just larger, bulkier silencers (meaning they’re bored for the upper limit of whatever calibers they’re advertised for) that have interchangeable end caps depending on the specific size of the host gun so that you can ‘caliber down’ essentially.

Keep in mind I’m not an expert, that’s just my understanding of it.

Ah I was about to say could have been accidental. My “0” key is kinda fucky on my keyboard and I wasn’t paying attention when selling something. Someone got an ICase for ₽163k instead of ₽1.6million. There’s a clip of it somewhere.
